Dozens of voters in Pueblo County, Colorado have claimed electronic voting machines have changed their votes for Mitt Romney to votes for President Barack Obama.
The Pueblo County Republican Party has asked the Colorado Secretary of State's office to investigate the matter.
A voter told KRDO Newschannel 13 that a checkmark appeared next to Obama's name after she cast her vote for Romney.
"I wonder where my vote really counted," she stated.
Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder Gilbert Ortiz admitted he was aware of "fewer than ten instances" of votes being switched and conceded such errors have occurred since the county has used the electronic voting machines in 2006. He blamed those changes on human error.
Gilbert said voters had several chances to check their ballot before submitting it, but Pueblo Republican Chair Becky Mizel said the county's clerk office should, "at the very minimum," place a note on the door of polling places informing voters to lookout for potential problems with the voting machines.
Last week, the Republican National Committee sent letters to six states, asking them to more closely monitor electronic voting machines -- and to re-calibrate them -- on Election Day. Colorado was one of those six states.

SOE Software boasts a strong U.S. presence, providing results in over 900 jurisdictions. In 2009, SCYTL formally registered with the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (AEC) as the first Internet voting manufacturer in the U.S. under the EAC Voting System Testing and Certification Program. dIf that were the problem, then there’s be “errors” in favor of Romney 50% of the time. That’s not happening.
Not just the odds of “random” improper calibration going to hussein every time but combine that with those quirks being in swing states. Just wait until Spain starts the count...

I’m probably going to get totally flamed for this, but I’m going to attempt to explain it anyway...
These are “touch-screen” applications, correct? I’ve had to manage a system like that before - years ago, but still...
The “calibration” process is fairly simple, but it involves touching various points on the screen to do it. I don’t know if these programs have gotten more or less sensitive than the machine I worked with, but it is possible - depending on the person - to touch the “boxes” wrong and for the result to be that you have to almost touch above certain option boxes to get the right selection.
If that is how the machines are achieving these errors then it is DEFINITELY likely, that if you’ve got two or more choices on the screen, unless you touch it in the right way you will get the wrong selection. Sometimes even when I had JUST re-calibrated the machine we worked with people would STILL have problems touching the screen to get what they wanted, and then I would basically have to do it FOR them.
The “recalibration” problems would NOT arrive at mistakes 50% of the time like you proposed. It would ALWAYS be “off” to a certain point, and depending upon the person using the machine, the width of the fingers, the person’s height (as far as where they are pressing on the selection points), etc.. can ALL factor in to highlighting the wrong selection.
NOW, I’m NOT saying that someone may not be purposefully calibrating these machines to be “off” by some margin that would make hitting Romney’s selection highlight Obama’s selection (calibrating above or below the boxes), but it is possible that these are “mistakes” as well. And, frankly, there are some people who just do NOT know what they are doing. There are reports of some of these same machines highlighting Romney instead of Obama (that’s not receiving as much attention in our circles obviously, but it is happening).
THIS is exactly why I HATE electronic voting. There are way too many possible ways for these machines and the touch-screen applications to be “off” and cause problems such as the ones described.
I hope I’ve explained this well enough to not have people jumping all over me... I am NOT saying there are not perhaps problems occurring on PURPOSE in some of these places, but it IS possible for these to be calibration errors, and it is possible that it could be ALL going to a box above or below based upon how far it is off, and how sensitive the touch-screen is as well. There are also problems that occur depending upon how many people have gone through and used a specific machine - over time it can go “off” - even when it was calibrated correctly at the start of the day.
That all said - CHECK THE FINAL TALLY to make SURE your selections are what the machine recorded for you. Then DOUBLE-CHECK it again. If a paper ballot is available to you, USE IT, and avoid these problems altogether.
We need to also keep in mind that the majority of the poll workers do NOT have experience with these types of machines, nor programs. Not like someone who uses these applications everyday. You would not believe how much people don’t “get along” with technology, especially if they’ve never worked with such a system before.
This doesn’t have to be some part of a conspiracy at these polling locations (and I’m NOT trying to be rude, or disrespectful using that term so please don’t jump on me for that - I’m a ‘birther’ so I’m sensitive to that word as well).
This could honestly be pure incompetence, lack of proper training, and lack of understanding how often one needs to check the machines after large numbers of people have been using them. Also, a dirty screen can have an effect as well...
No, that’s not how a mistake in calibration would work. And, there have been reports of machines selecting Romney instead of Obama, but they don’t receive the attention here that they do in other places - and that’s not a slam, it’s just obvious that we’d be looking more at those “mistakes” in favor of Obama, while those on the “other side” will be looking for the mistakes that favor Romney.
Did you get a ballot # or voter# or something for which to check against? I’m just curious as to how they would look it up because they are not supposed to keep track according to name of the voter.
I’m hoping there is some difference in how our polling place works compared to last election - we have the scantron machines and it only ticks the large counter forward, and doesn’t give you anything in return...
I would REALLY like to go back to HAND-COUNTED Paper ballots - I don’t care if it would take a MONTH to find out the results. It’s worth the wait, IMO. There are too many ways for these mechanical and computerized systems to go wrong.
