Who Authorized FBI Surveillance of Gen. Petraeus?
Breitbart ^

Posted on 11/10/2012 10:51:39 AM PST by Perdogg

Even by the standards of the friday afternoon news dump tradition, yesterday's news that Gen. David Petraeus had resigned from the CIA was a stunner. The most heralded military officer of his generation fell from grace after it was revealed he'd had an affair with his biographer. The affair was discovered earlier this year soon after the FBI began monitoring his email. This raises a very serious question. Who authorized the FBI to monitor the e-mail of the Director of the CIA?

Lots of stupid comments here.

If the third party contacted the FBI about the threatening emails (under interstate communications laws perview), it would have gone to the SAC in that area, then up the food chain to, guess who? The Director of the FBI or one of his immediate assistants.

Then the question is, ‘who did Mueller contact about this’? In theory, he would have contacted someone very high in Military Counter-Intelligence, CIC or its equivalent to tell them what he had and ask them to help coordinate an investigation, both internal and external.

Secondly, it seems that he would have to contact the appropriate congressional intelligence committees, maybe even including the Dept. of Homeland Security. Re the DHS, Napolitano would have gone running to Obama in a second with this type of information.

I don’t know if Mueller would have gone to the CIA’s internal security section, but he should have, as both a professional courtesy and because they would have to be part of an internal investigation effort.

Somewhere along the line, this type of information would have been given to Secy/Defense Panetta (another Obama loyalist), Secy of State Clinton (you fill in the blanks here), Joint Chiefs of Staff (led by the gutless Gen. Dempsey), and maybe even White House advisors (many of whom couldn’t get a legitimate security clearance to clean a toilet anywhere in the government).

NSA probably had nothing to do with this, per se. They might have been “cced” as part of a general “alert” communication of a possible security risk/breach, but they almost certainly didn’t pick up the information on their own. They don’t work like that.

The whole incident stinks but if you’re not on the inside, right now all you can do is speculate, or go back and read the government documents which spell out the duties and powers of each agency mentioned here, and see if they would logically be included in a notification of a potentially major security problem.

Time will tell who is right or wrong, and all we have now is time.

At the very latest, this is when Petraeus, should have looked up a new biographer.

I had assumed the point of irresistibility was reached in Afghanistan, perhaps during a sweaty break from those six-minute mile interviews.

But more recent reports indicate they didn't get physical until after he had shed the uniform to become CIA Director, which was after her biographer output had been published.

He and his vengeful minions came back stronger, to desolate the land and her people.

vengeful: oh, yes, indeed! I admit I'm concerned.

stronger: embolded by the electorate endorsement. Hoist the pirate flags!

desolate: in the physical (land) as well as the spiritual (people) sense.
