Boehner Tells House G.O.P. to Fall in Line
ny times ^ | 11/10/2012 | By JONATHAN WEISMAN and JENNIFER STEINHAUER

On a conference call with House Republicans a day after the party’s electoral battering last week, Speaker John A. Boehner dished out some bitter medicine, and for the first time in the 112th Congress, most members took their dose.

Their party lost, badly, Mr. Boehner said, and while Republicans would still control the House and would continue to staunchly oppose tax rate increases as Congress grapples with the impending fiscal battle, they had to avoid the nasty showdowns that marked so much of the last two years.

Members on the call, subdued and dark, murmured words of support — even a few who had been a thorn in the speaker’s side for much of this Congress.

It was a striking contrast to a similar call last year, when Mr. Boehner tried to persuade members to compromise with Democrats on a deal to extend a temporary cut in payroll taxes, only to have them loudly revolt.

With President Obama re-elected and Democrats cementing control of the Senate, Mr. Boehner will need to capitalize on the chastened faction of the House G.O.P. that wants to cut a deal to avert sudden tax increases and across-the-board spending cuts in January that could send the economy back into recession. After spending two years marooned between the will of his loud and fractious members and the Democratic Senate majority, the speaker is trying to assert control, and many members seem to be offering support.

It’s interesting that the NY Times is reporting that the GOP “lost badly”. Really? Ok, we didn’t win the big enchilada, but we retained the House. Secondly, Obama lost badly... 10 million less votes BADLY. Yes, our side lost 2 million votes as well. But is the time really saying.... this loss is so bad because you couldn’t beat a miserable failure of a President.

Screw it, lets ALL registerer as Democrats; screw up their primaries.... its obvious that the American people do a lousy job at picking Congressmen and Senators, at least according to every poll I read, so who cares about the congressional and statewide seats.

So in light of all of us voting in the DemRAT primary, I would have said let’s vote for their worst candidate so that the guy we really want, can be voted for as an Independent but unfortunately, the RATS already voted for the worst possible candidate and HE FRIGGIN WON. So maybe voting for the best RAT might be a good strategy.

I for one have been calling for giving the GOP a chance and I got bamboozled. It’s no one else’s fault except my own! I will not make that mistake again and I will invest every penny I have, if need be, to end this one party rule.

As was shown in 2012, about all our little uninformed Republican primary voters know to do is rubberstamp the familiar names on the ballot. They are too busy paying taxes to do the research required to rid us of liberals within our own ranks.

No more running Conservative candidates against Republicans in the primaries, run them in the General Election even if it gives the Rats more seats if we lose. The GOP has alienated us for the last time.

It’s a sound idea because even when Republicans “win,” we still lose. It really is time to look for ways to bust the whole system to smithereens and, afterwards, look for the few pieces that might be important building blocks.

If Boehner enters any negotiations then he is taking responsibility for it. Boehner doesn’t have to do a thing and Obama gets his way, higher taxes.

Boehner is going to fold and zero knows it. Boehner will huff and puff but in the end, as always, will surrender the cuts and our taxes will go up. And cuts will be made again early next year when the debt ceiling needs’ to be raised. Step aside Boehner, let zero take us over the cliff, he won’t be happy until he does..it..is..over!

After reading posts from others, I’m not the only one. There seems to be a lot of confusion concerning Operation Chaos.

i believe the speaker of the house doesn't even have to be a current congressman. Levin talked about it some months ago. But I’m not sure if you can be a senator and speaker of the house.Seems to be a double dip there.

Yes, I am aware that there is no Constitutional requirement for anyone to be the Speaker of the House. My point was that the senator would not be likely to give up his six-year tenure for a two-year tenure as Speaker. I should have said so.

Exactly what Rush said do. Let the Dims have everything they want

My husband and I were discussing that this morning. Unless government spending stops, the economy is doomed anyway. We borrow 40 cents on every dollar now. If oboma takes away cash needed for jobs, even less revenue will make it to Washington.

Government will not cut back the democrat hammock. In fact, they're adding to it. The economy WILL collapse. There's no way out as long as the freeloaders remain freeloaders, and who in their right mind sees them all of a sudden running out to find jobs and seriously trying to make it on their own? Ain't gonna happen.

We've decided it would be best if the Republicans gave Oboma what he wanted, because it's not going to help anyway. At least the Republicans will be squeaky clean when the collapse hits. The democrats will own it all.

It doesn't matter what happens at this point, so it's best working Americans start preparing for themselves and their family. We're about to exit our cash based society and switch to a calorie based society. Food will become very valuable (make sure to hide it well, because the democrats will try to steal that, too. )

The worst thing the Republicans can do is to give Obama bipartisan cover, because then when it tanks, he takes them down with him. And believe me, the media will blame Boehner and the Republican House more than they will Obama.....yes, let them win, but that doesn’t mean signing on to it....I would just rather see the entire Republican delegation walk out en masse when it came up for a vote.

I was considering joining the Constitution Party regardless of who won the election. Didn’t want to before the election. My assumption was Mitt would win. He didn’t.

I still think I’ll join the CP. The gop has become the whig party of the 21st century. They’ll cling to whatever power they have for awhile, but they’re intellectually and philosophically dead and have been for awhile. And now they’ve shown they can’t even win an utterly winnable election.

1)Newt would be great for Speaker. I like West, especially if he ultimately concedes his seat. If you vote against him you are RACIST/s.

2) Pass the Ryan Budget. Let the Senate kill it. Then pass the Flat Tax (see Heritage website) let the Senate be on record as killing it. Then give OBAMA what ever he wants! No republican fingerprints on his agenda. VOTE PRESENT!
DIMS then OWN the economy. A REPUBLICAN BILL WILL NEVER PASS THE SENATE. DO NOT COMPROMISE. A tactical retreat.

3 With a new Speaker FIGHT Obamacare. It is a TAX BILL after all!

Wouldn’t fiscal conservatism include the philosophy of paying down the debt? And wouldn’t that require SOME increase in revenue?

When we held the line on the 10-for-1 offer, that made us look like fools. Our battle should not be “No tax increases, EVER!” Our battle should be to ensure that we get real spending cuts and not the shell game Democrats are offering.

Agree to modest tax increases on the wealthy that will sunset in 10 years. Agree to the 10-for-1 deal, but stand firm on real spending cuts.

The Republican Party needs to stick to Conservative principles and Conservative candidates.

That's the problem. They haven't done that for decades. That's why the country is in the mess it's in. Through "bipartisanship" they moved too far to the left.

Because the economy is going to crash no matter what (because Washington will NEVER cut social programs in half), why not make it the democrats problem? Better them than us, because the borrowing from other countries is about to crash as well (They've got their own people to feed.)

Without tax revenue going to Washington, or foreign aid coming in from other countries, this nation is in big trouble. People need to understand that. I'd rather the dems and their freeloading base take the hit for it. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Remind people the conservatives had absolutely nothing to do with the massive give away programs in this country. In fact, we were the ones trying to stop them. We were the only ones trying to save the American people from what is about to occur.

There can be if you make that the fight. Stand firm on no tax increases when we’re trillions in debt, and we will lose every time.

I called my state Rep’s and Senators and express my concern and told them all in no uncertain terms would I be voting for them if they didn’t stand up to Bonner and the Dem’s. I will not vote for any more spineless Republicans. 2014 will be a good year to clean the Republican house!

Instead we can vote for a useless gop that doesn’t win, either. Or if it does “win”, its first instinct is to cringe, cower, and capitulate. And we lose in the long run anyway.

Thanks, but if I’m going to lose I’d prefer to do so straight up and know that I at least stayed somewhat true to my beliefs.
