Kroger to Slash Hourly Workers to Avoid Obamacare Penalties

Operative Faith reveals that Kroger will soon join the ranks of Durden Restaurants and slash the hours of its non-exempt (hourly) workers to avoid millions in Obamacare penalties.

To give you a sense of Kroger’s size and importance, its sales last year were $90 billion and it employs nearly 350,000 people. Most of its jobs are hourly and the vast majority of workers are neither millionaires or billionaires.

Faith is a mid-level manager at Kroger and reports the dire news:

Last week we found out that, beginning in January, any employee who is not full-time at that point,will be limited to 28 hours per week and all new hires will be subject to the same policy.

Currently, part-time employees can work as many hours as needed.

Many Kroger employees, I believe, will be shocked to find out about this new policy.

Are you familiar with Kroger's pricing system? Essentially they price goods according to your ability to pay, based on the economic make-up of the area. We pay through the nose where I live.

Fly in the ointment here is that they will need to nearly double the number of part-time employees on the payroll in order to cover all their shifts. And as it is, you can barely find enough people at those wages with some semblance of a work ethic to fill those shifts now.

They will work something out with some other place nearby, wherein each will share their employees with the other. An employee will work 20 hours/week at Kroger, and 20 hours at the other place. That way no employee will work too many hours at any single employer.

With the massive layoffs occurring now and in the next few years, people will be clamoring for those jobs. The illegals and illiterates will have plenty of competition.

Sorry I did mean Wegman’s. Biggest rip off? You can get some really good food for relatively cheap prices. I would say that you could get 500 dollars for a family of six (which I have) a month easy.

I am curious how this will play out. If they slash hours, and then realize an increased profit in quarterly reports, the the employees will take it out on the company.

A CEO I worked for a while ago understood. He stated “If I screw you over, you will find a way to screw me over 10 times”.

It’s Wegman’s. Started in Rochester, NY. Mostly in the NE and mid-Atlantic states, but spreading. Lots of pre-made and specialty foods. Caters to people who have lots of money and don’t like to cook.

People who don't like to cook? Pffft! People who do like to cook go there; you can find far more different kinds of ingredients and foods to use than Kroger.

Home depot has the self checkouts. I believe Lowes is considering it, at least the one in Marquette, MI. I was in Flint Michigan and i had no choice but had to utilize the self checkout at Meijers. i got so disgusted with the damn thing, half the items would not ring up. just said forget it and walked out of the store.
