Scandal probe ensnares commander of U.S., NATO troops in Afghanistan

The FBI probe into the sex scandal that prompted CIA Director David Petraeus to resign has expanded to ensnare Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced early Tuesday.

According to a senior U.S. defense official, the FBI has uncovered between 20,000 and 30,000 documents — most of them e-mails — of “potentially inappropriate” communications between Allen and Jill Kelley, a 37-year-old Tampa woman whose close relationship with Petraeus ultimately led to his downfall.

Allen, a Marine, succeeded Petraeus as the top allied commander in Afghanistan in July 2011. He also served as Petraeus’s deputy when both generals led the military’s Tampa-based Central Command from 2008 until 2010.

The FBI first notified the Pentagon of its investigation into Allen’s communications with Kelley on Sunday evening, according to the senior defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details of the pending case.

In response, Pentagon chief Leon E. Panetta referred the investigation on Monday to the Defense Department’s Inspector General for further review, according to a statement released by Panetta early Tuesday as he was traveling to Australia.

It amazes me how the FBI missed classified documents in the ruins of benghazi, but they can digging up all this dirt on decorated hereos. What do we believe?

yea my wife and I had the same thoughts...30 a day. Even if they are a thread starting with"good morning" and ending with "show me your _____." It is too much time spent cheating the grunt on the ground. Is it any wonder waste in the VA or the military has been going on for way too long?

Clean up the mess and find congress people to bring a broom to every branch of the government!!

20-30 thousand pages could have been spread by a virus?

OR

We are assuming one to two pages per email, while maybe it was fewer emails but more pages per email..... as in document dump....

Maybe secrets were being sent and threats were made to expose them “or else”?

Guess we go along for the ride until some sort of TRUTH finds it’s way out of this quagmire.

If ever.

Somebody needs to start demanding to see the FBI’s judge signed orders to snoop, as well as all orders signed by Obama on Sept. 11, 2012!!

I'm sure Boehner'll get right on that.

Looks like Broadwell’s dad was right - this IS bigger than her and Petraeus.

If the FBI concluded their investigation 4 days before the election, why are there 5 days between the Petraeus story and the Allen story?

The twin sister:
“Since her filing, Cohen has delved into Khawam’s past: He’s uncovered court documents from a bankruptcy. He also unearthed a searing, 19-page child custody order from a Washington, D.C., superior court judge calling her out in 2011 for a lengthy “history of abusing the litigation process” and a “willingness to say anything, even under oath, to advance her own personal interests.””

http://www.tampabay.com/news/courts/faced-with-employment-lawsuit-tampa-lawyer-barry-cohen-goes-into-attack/1248260

Jill and her husband have major financial issues.

Twin sister files for sexual harassment.

Jill claims she was harassed by the FBI with a shirtless photo.

This family is a wild card in the equation.

I just can’t figure out who is going to benefit from all of this.

Our side or Obama’s side.

Special Prosecutor: “General Petraeus has testified that the administration knew of the Benghazi attack while it was underway and refused to send assistance, knowingly allowing those men to die.”

Administration: “Petraeus? This administration refuses to respond to allegations from a disgraced, lying, adulterer”.

MSM: “Who was that disgraced, lying, adulterer Petraeus banging and when did he start banging her? That’s the important story here”.

Right out of the Clinton playbook.

yea I’m liking the tom clancy - lebanese spy angle. As to the number I don’t give a rat’s bottom...those kids (I was one) who go out everyday, do their job and expect the officers to be making it better. What about all the kids that lost limbs while 3 generals are playing sex games... just not right.

Gee, thanks for posting that pic!
However, since I don’t know for sure who those people are (Karl Rove and either Broadwell or that Jill-whatever, maybe? ), nor when and where the pic was taken, I am unable to infer whatever it is you apparently think is common knowledge, lol. :-)

It's Karl Rove. From his twitter account. You should take a look at how few pictures he posts.

Meanwhile, it seems WAPO made a mistake Rajiv Chandrasekaran ‏@rajivwashpost Many new details in WaPo story: Official close to Allen says it was hundreds of messages over a few yrs, not 20-30k. http://ow.ly/ffr0f

This is what is important this morning...

No one is talking about the FBI search at Broadwell's home last night. The Wapo has nothing about it on the main web page. Neither does the NYTs.

MSM has been given the directive, do not focus on Broadwell's Oct. 26 speech.
