Our Mesmerizer-in-Chief
Bernardgoldberg.com ^ | November 18, 2012 | Bernard Goldberg

A while back, when the president and Republicans couldn’t agree on whether it was day or night or what day it was, I came up with this brilliant idea: Republicans should give Barack Obama everything he wants. And by everything, I meant … everything.

You want higher taxes on the wealthy, Mr. President even though that might lead us into another recession? You got it. You want to pass healthcare reform that will raise about 20 new taxes and keep the economy in the doldrums? We won’t waste your time, and ours, fighting over it. Whatever else you want, Mr. President, it’s yours – because we’re tired of fighting over everything with you.

But there was a method to this madness. I figured when the economy tanks, when millions more Americans lose their jobs, when people realize ObamaCare is the nightmare Republicans were warning about, the president and his cronies in Congress would get all the blame and that would usher in a new era of conservative ascendance.

That’s what happened in Ayn Rand’s classic, Atlas Shrugged, right? The big government incompetents screwed things up so royally that the economy collapsed – completely and utterly collapsed — and only then did the good guys – the business men and women who understood how the free market works – only then did they come out of hiding and begin to make America right again

What the hell was I thinking?

Now I’m convinced that the Republican brand is so tarnished – no, make that so discredited – that they will get blamed for absolutely everything that goes wrong starting right now.

If we go over the so-called “fiscal cliff” Americans will blame the Republicans. They’re obstructionists, the media and a majority of Americans will say. If we avoid the cliff, Mr. Obama and his party will get all the credit “for looking out for people like me.”

If the economy takes another dive next year because we raised taxes on the wealthiest Americans but didn’t cut spending by much, if at all, Republicans will get blamed for that too. If we don’t slip into another recession, the president will be hailed as a great visionary who by his superior intellect saved the economy and the country.

If it turns out that the president and his team were lying about Benghazi – that they knew all along it was an act of terrorism and came up with the anti-Islam video cover story to make it look like al-qaeda really was decimated as the president kept telling us during the campaign – the media will say, and the American people will believe, that the Republicans are despicably using the deaths of four Americans for political gain. Facts won’t matter.

If it turns out that ObamaCare is as bad as we thought – if doctors stop taking Medicare patients because their fees have been cut, or if certain medical procedures are denied because they’re not cost effective — Republicans will take the hit because they didn’t do enough to stop the law from going through. That not one Republican voted for ObamaCare won’t matter one wit.

If Iran winds up with a nuclear bomb, Republicans will get blamed because they didn’t want to talk, one on one, with the Iranians. If the president winds up talking one on one with the Iranians, and the talks go nowhere, Republicans will still get blamed because they’re too bellicose.

Why am I so pessimistic – or realistic, as I choose to see it? Because just as Barack Obama cast a spell over a majority of journalists a long time ago, he has clearly also cast a spell over a majority of Americans. He is our mesmerizer-in-chief.

When all my conservative pals were telling me that Obama couldn’t possibly win re-election – not with chronically high unemployment and chronically low economic growth – I told them that this president was different; that the old rules no longer applied. I told them that this president wasn’t Mondale or Dukakis or Gore or Kerry. I told them that this president was magic, and that Americans were taken in by his smile, his charm, by the way he spoke and the way he walked. The president was cool. But my friends on the Right didn’t think cool mattered, not when the economy was in the tank.

I will not say they were wrong and I was right because that would not be gracious, even though they were wrong and I was right.

Things don’t look good for the GOP. If they hope to make a comeback they need a good PR firm to help change the party’s stodgy image. Every time I see the Republican leadership holding court with reporters in the halls of Congress, I cringe. These guys, in the dark suits, white shirts and red ties, give dull a bad name.

The GOP needs some young blood. Remember, the “O” in GOP stands for “old.” What Republicans need is a conservative Barack Obama. Like it or not, in our entertainment culture, cool matters.

Republicans also need to make clear to everyone paying attention, that they are not the party that believes that if rape happens, it’s part of God’s plan. They need to make clear that they are not the party of religious zealots who take their marching orders from the Bible. They need to stop uttering the word “abortion.” That ship has sailed. It’s legal whether they like it or not, and that’s not about to change, so why lose votes talking about it.

Here’s the good news for the GOP: Except for Obama, the rest of the Democrats are stiffs just like the Republicans. Unless you count Hillary. That’s more bad news for the Republicans.

This is written to advise the republicans to give obama everythign he wants as if they were not going to give him everything he wants.

They are going to give him everything he wants and more.

We are going over the cliff, the republicans are going to help push, and they will get blamed for it.

Iran is going to get a nuke, the republicans are going to help, and they are going to get blamed for it.

Republicans are still going to talk about abortion, and they aren’t going to get elected as a result, furthermore, they aren’t going to get elected whether they do or they don’t because they are just plain stupid.

We are going where we are going, and that is all the hell there is to it.

Prepare.

On any issue, if Republicans give 0bama everything he wants, then it will have been a bipartisan decision and 0bama is off the hook. So, Republicans need to stand up for what is right and, if necessary, be obstructionists. If things continue to go bad, then at least they will be on the record as being against 0bama and could possibly find a winning candidate and develop a winning strategy. If things get better, then America is better off and the Democrats will be the heros, and Republicans wouldn’t get elected anyway.

Exactly correct. And to add: Marxists are skilled at blaming their political enemies for the consequences of misery that they themselves are orchestrating for the purposes of consolidating power.

Once misery reaches critical mass, pogroms are accepted and punishments meted out upon the chosen enemies of the state - and eradication is accepted by the masses.

If the magic Negro-In-Chief is, by the powers of Satan and a people who have been given over by God to delusion - then as the OP posted - we will be blamed for all and everything , no matter what - and the people will believe it and join the bandwagon of calling for our heads.

Such is history and human nature.

Such is what this country has now entered into.

Really? He hypnotized people into voting for him? Nawwwww.....he’s popular and they like him, but he didn’t put them in a trance.
He convinced people to listen to their fears. That’s why I really despise the Democrat leaders. They all have great lives. Then, they turn around and frighten people into voting for them. It’s cold-blooded, cruel and calculated.

Goldberg says to drop abortion. “That ship has sailed.”

In other words, Goldberg believes that America wants abortion, and will have abortion, and will continue on that way indefinitely, provided we can fix other problems.

But that’s not the way it will be.

America will either get rid of abortion, or collapse. Legal abortion nullifies the right to life of EVERYONE. It nullifies the Declaration and Constitution IN TOTO.

Decades ago I heard that both Parties were taking us to the same place. The only difference was that the Democrats were taking us there rapidly, while Republicans were slower, but the destination was the same.

I can not express the anger I felt when I heard that analysis. It seemed inconceivable and outrageous. Now, in 2012 America, I am dismayed that I could have been wrong. For well over a hundred years there were those among us who hated the capitalistic system that America has operated and prospered under.

But I also remember wondering why lawmakers of both Parties gave control of America’s educational systems over to the radicals who described themselves as “The New Left.” They were the same pot smoking, acid dropping, self-centered creatures who took over administration buildings at universities during the anti-war demonstrations of the Vietnam era.

They are the people who spat upon our returning military personnel in airports. Many of them fled to Canada to avoid service. Some, like Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn, became terrorists. So why did America’s elected leadership give them control of the education of our children?

Now we see Mitt Romney follow the John McCain refusal to focus voters on the numerous holes in the resume’ of Barack Obama. Romney could have destroyed the campaign of Obama by forcing Obama to explain why he deliberately allowed four Americans to be slaughtered in Benghazi.

As I write I feel revulsion toward Republicans that equals the disgust and contempt I have for the Democrats. I also feel helpless and angry. I will never stop fighting the Democrats. I will also, as a member of the local Tea Party, challenge the GOP leaders about their policies.

That may not change the outcome. America may be in an irreversible decline. If that proves to be true then I will curse them all for being the traitors that they are. I am an old man. I fear that I have seen the best years of this Republic.

INVAR that is exactly right.

I mean all I can do is sit here and shake my head.

The evil that has been born in this country is concentrated.

It is truly wicked.

I do believe beyond any doubt that we have reached that point in time from which the only salvation will be Jesus Christ.

I’ve HAD it with you, Bernie...just like I’ve HAD it with everyone else who prostitutes their positions in life to sell their books or their “appearances”.

I will NOT buy your book, or Hannity’s OR Coulters’s OR Levin’s OR Rush’s OR anyone else’s. Republicans and Democrats have put me in a situation where I can’t afford to buy books, anyway.

The Repubs are comfortable in their affiliation with the democrats. No Obama”care”, they’ll give themselves pay raises when no one is looking, and they’ll bide their time until the golden parachute the working stiffs supply them kicks in.

We need a Tea Party. The Republican Party is on it’s way out. The dems are commies.

Explain, Bernie, the Consent Decree or STFU.

http://thesteadydrip.blogspot.com/2012/11/why-gop-wont-challenge-vote-fraud.html

“The Republican Party made an agreement 30 years ago with the Democrat Party NOT to ensure voting integrity and NOT to pursue suspected vote fraud.”

Tell ya what, Bernie; STFU, anyway.

Obama will get what he wants anyway.

Just make sure he gets all the accountability and blame too.

Don’t give him any ammunition to lay the blame elsewhere.

GeneWil, I am reposting your post and then respoding to a couple of things point by point, not because I disagree or am contentious, but because it is powerful and also there are some things I need to respond to.

Decades ago I heard that both Parties were taking us to the same place. The only difference was that the Democrats were taking us there rapidly, while Republicans were slower, but the destination was the same.

I had heard these same things, and I did not believe them either. However, today I believe something different. I believe the GOP is something akin to the familiars of vampires. Those who do the bidding of their masters in the light of day where their masters cannot go. Not literally of course, but metaphorically. They are in league, and they are the ones who mind the shop when the master are out, assuring that business is done properly.

They will also take the fall and the blame for their masters handiwork. That is their duty.

I can not express the anger I felt when I heard that analysis. It seemed inconceivable and outrageous. Now, in 2012 America, I am dismayed that I could have been wrong. For well over a hundred years there were those among us who hated the capitalistic system that America has operated and prospered under.

I have wondered myself just how the greatest country of man ever in history, the shining beacon of Freedom could give birth to the greatest coniving evil that I have ever seen, but the answer seems clear. Such as shining beacon is what evil hates the most, and thus it must be destroyed utterly. The best way to destory something that is strong is from within, much as a growing cancer would. That is how it operates.

Here I am conflicted and a bit troubled. I'll tell you why, perhaps I should not, but here it goes. In my youth, which wasn't all that long ago now being 41, I was a pot smoker, and I was an acid dropper. I was an atheist and a liberal. For some time I enjoyed those things, but at some point they became scary.

As I aged, the things I enjoyed in my youth that made me feel different and superior to others then made me feel insane. Somewhere in that haze I saw Jesus Christ and I asked Him to guide me out, I asked Him to give me His strength and wisdom and to live in me even though I am not worthy of Him. He did.

Today I am not as lost in the forest as I used to be, but I am also not where I could have been had I never chosen to step of the path of good. Nonetheless I am happy, I have peace of mind, and I do not seek to poison my self with those demons any longer. Clarity is what matters to me, Being high is running from truth, and when you run from truth while high, where you end up is where you do not want to be. Hard lesson.

As to why lawmakers turned over our children to those people you describe, I do believe it is because they are the familiars, and they did that knowing exactly what they were doing. They do the same today even when the results of having done so are visibly obvious.

They are the people who spat upon our returning military personnel in airports. Many of them fled to Canada to avoid service. Some, like Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn, became terrorists. So why did America’s elected leadership give them control of the education of our children?

Despite my past, I have always respected our military. They are better men and women than I am, and I know that their efforts provided me the freedom to stumble through my life and find my eventual path. When I see them out and about, I hold the door for them, I ask them to move in front of me in line. I want them to know that I love them.

I have thought for sometime now that as good a man as Mitt Romney is, he will not defeat the devil, nor will any other man. We are at the time where if we are to be saved, then it will be because Jesus Christ saved us again. We are on a path of destiny now, and it will not be an easy path.

As I write I feel revulsion toward Republicans that equals the disgust and contempt I have for the Democrats. I also feel helpless and angry. I will never stop fighting the Democrats. I will also, as a member of the local Tea Party, challenge the GOP leaders about their policies.

I have the same revulsion. I now know that good men have no friends to rely on or help them. What they have is snakes waiting to bite them. I will also do what I can to fight, but I'm not exactly sure what that means at this time. I think that perhaps I shall not waste my time attemtping to fight politically. It seems futile.

That may not change the outcome. America may be in an irreversible decline. If that proves to be true then I will curse them all for being the traitors that they are. I am an old man. I fear that I have seen the best years of this Republic.

I think she may be in such a decline as well, and I curse the traitors too. I am over the hill now, I'm sort of glad to have at least some large portion of my life behind me, and it was in a country that I loved even despite my earlier youthful stupidity. I do worry for my two young nephews though. One has one year and the other has one day behind him. I fear they may have been born at a time that means their lives will see trouble.

Anyhow, GeneWil, I hope I didn't go on too much. A number of points in your post struck home with me, so I thought I would respond. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, and God Bless.

I have to agree with much of this as pessimism seems to always be the most accurate the past two years with the R party.

Its not just that O is personally popular but its that the Dems are organized behind him and he picks and chooses his battles to win bigger ones in the longer run.

O gave in on ‘tax cuts for the rich’ for (only) two years exactly two years ago 2010 just to run against them and beat Romney over the head with it day after day.
The Dems didn’t abandon him for violating their sacred principle and two years later they are rewarded with Republicans on the ropes over the fiscal cliff.

Republicans need a true leader to be smart enough to beat Dems instead of surrender and unite the party in a strategic fight.
In WI they have such a leader, Scott Walker. Instead at the national level we have a dysfunctional loser party.

I think that with the House in Republican hands, they ought to be a sharp, jagged piece of glass in Obama's shoe.

No plans for a budget, Mr. President? Then, the House should stop working on a budget.

Whatever the BFN wants, do not jump up to deliver it.

Instead, make Benghazi way bigger than Watergate. And pound that sucker flat into the ground.

You’ve doubtless heard about how one can hypnotize a chicken, by holding your finger steadily at a point in front of their heads, just inside their forward vision, making them focus on it exclusively, then drawing it away. This is what has happened. The American public had been misdirected from seeing what is going on across the larger stage, with a distracting and fraudulent PR campaign, having virtually nothing to do with the real issues and dire circumstances our country faces.

Voting should be about the future, not about juvenile idiocy like the asinine “War on Women” fraud spouted by the cynical spin doctors within Obama’s inner circle. Obama’s egregious policy direction of eroding religious freedoms and attacking the conscience of free Americans is as a result ignored. Politics has sunk to such a level of mediocrity that impending economic catastrophe is overlooked as a serious focus for adult voter attention in preference to nonsense about dogs traveling on car roofs.

Has the American Eagle become a Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Rock, or Leghorn? Are we living now in Idiotstan? If this kind of vacuous campaign strategy is now in ascendency, and we are to be ruled by frauds that influence the masses with such piffle as we have seen this cycle, then what is the counter strategy?

How about just telling the truth. Harsh and real, call a lie a lie. Obama is a blatant liar, a criminal and a threat to America and American’s future and well being. Bring it home and lay it right in their laps. It stinks, and it should stink, and burn in their faces. Fast and Furious, Benghazi, Obamacare, vote fraud, all the lies we have been told, and all the laws broken and ignored by this administration- the whole stinking mess needs to be front and center, day after day, now and forever! To hell with Obama’s sycophantic suck up media clones and their knee jerk penchant to cry “racism” at every turn, damn them all to hell. Make em face the truth.

Angry am I? You better damn believe it! Like the Howard Beale said, you have got to get mad, and etc. etc. etc. Trouble is, you get tired of being angry for very long, and begin to just get frustrated. So it is.

The constant in all of this is that the Left, and in particular this president, is not going to offer anything like solutions or results to all crushing problems we face. Just more lies, excuses, misdirection, blame shifting, and failure. Wake up and bite that finger in front of your face! Or get you head lopped off like our erstwhile rooster.
