NBC sportscaster Bob Costas will appear tonight on Fox News OReilly Factor with host Bill OReilly as the centerpiece of a gun rights controversy that just keeps on giving like the proverbial Christmas present with a down-side.
He's trying to mollify a lot of angry people and it is obviously not working at Northwest Firearms, Shooters Northwest, Seattle Guns or Gun Rights Media. His media colleagues may be okay with his remarks, and buy his shifting explanations, but that merely has sharpened the philosophical disparity between the media and a huge segment of its audience.
This column discussed Mr. OReillys defense and criticism of Costas remarks during a halftime broadcast Sunday evening, and for the past couple of days, Mr. Costas has been doing his best to pick up the pieces. His verbatim use of a diatribe launched over the weekend by Kansas City sports writer Jason Whitlock, combined with his own remarks, has galvanized gun rights activists and firearms organizations.
The Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms are reportedly demanding an apology and want people to sign an on-line petition to NBC.
Over the past two days, Mr. Costas and others have shifted their story, insisting that his Sunday remarks were not about guns, but the gun culture that appears to him to be pervasive across the American landscape. The term seems somehow derogatory, as though to suggest that the firearms community is comparable to some sort of bacteria.

The real “Gun Culture” has no problem with gun violence.
The “hip hop culture”, which Bob is too chicken to point out, has a huge problem with guns and violence.
It's obvious that the LSM does not believe in The Constitution.
Meanwhile, everyone keeps watching people they know hate them, and at the same time paying them handsomely to do it.
Doesn’t matter if it “works” or not. What Costas said is already out there so apologizing for it is par for the course. NBC and Costas made thier point and Costas did this via thumbs up from NBC. Now that the seed’s been planted, the same boobs in this country that voted BO a 2nd time will also believe that gun control is necessary.
I saw him on O'Reilly last night and he looked awful: scared, tentative and unconvincing. In. Over. His. Head.
As am I. Brother and I went to the range last night with his son - had a blast.
“On Costas Tonight, Barkley addresses broader issues. He says, “Especially in the black culture, it’s a crime culture. We, as black people, and I always say ‘we’, we won’t have respect, we don’t have respect for each other. We have more black men in prison than we do in college, and crime in our neighborhoods is running rampant. I know everybody reacts when something like the Belcher thing happens. But being black, this is something you deal with all the time, and it’s just sad. I’m a guy and I carry a gun.””
Pointing out the culture that actually has the dysfunction would be the end of him, and he knows it.
I didn’t see the interview but did O’R ask him WHY HE THOUGHT IT WAS NECESSARY TO GIVE HIS FRIKKING OPINION ON NATIONAL TV? And did anyone tell this little weasel that we don’t give a rat’s arse what he or his network think about Jack Squat?
The right to possess and use firearms is specifically written into the US Constitution.
The “right” to terminate a viable pregnancy was elucidated by post-modern judges using the shadows (”penumbra”) surrounding the US Constitution.
Where would Costas be today if he would have used his time on NBC to politely decry abortion in the US?
Costas parsing his own words: “I never used the words ‘gun control’...I just said it’s too easy to get guns.”
Maroon.
Costas simply stated what his boss NBC was told to do by the administration....take advantage of a captured audience (30 or 40 million) to push the agenda. Costas will not pay a price, in fact may be rewarded. Nothing more than a Katie Couric in pants (on camera anyway)
The purpose of our Founding Fathers stipulating that Americans have the absolute RIGHT to Bear Arms was to keep any oppressive Government in check.
It was true then with the British, and it is becoming even more true today as we are slowly being taken over by Obama’s Communist Administration.
Seen from that perspective, Bob Costas is just another Liberal Enabler for Obama’s creeping Communism.
Gun owners and defenders of the Constitution need to not let up on this guy.
He’s on the mat. Don’t let him get up.
I value my TV set more than I care to see Bill doing his "Large & In-Charge" impression and smoothing it all over with Costas.
:: Im a guy and I carry a gun. ::
Interesting that he wraps up his little expose of the urban black culture with his identification of his gender and specifically ^not^ his race.
In an adult world Mr Costas comments are called projection. For the record libs have no problem w/ guns. Their problem is that you can own one.
They both look like hell without makeup. I wonder who's doing Costa's hair and makeup . . . a mortician?
Gadzooks, can you say anything... more stupid?
Evidently either Shan or RJ slept completely through history, otherwise they would have realized that a fair amount of murder, mayhem and slaughter happened in mankind's empire building with tree limbs, sharpened rocks, pointed sticks, knives, swords, lances, pikes, axes and mace & chain. If not certain, New School, just ask O.J. Simpson?
Liberals always go completely off the grid in never thinking about the reality of what they try to push down the throat of everyone else!

On second thought, since they can be listen to on the internet, anyone can call and complain, eh?
