Shoppers at an Ikea in North York were surprised to discover a small monkey wandering about the store wearing a fancy winter coat Sunday.
Bystander Bronwyn Page said she spotted the monkey outside, in the stores upper parking lot.
I was in an elevator going down and there was a crowd of people and then I saw the monkey, Page told CP24. It was wearing a coat and a diaper. It started darting all over the place. It was scared, it was screaming.
Page said the monkey was eventually cornered inside the store.
Police with 33 Division later confirmed the monkey is now in the care of animal services. They said it is illegal to keep a monkey as a pet in Toronto.
It was not clear who owns the monkey or how it came to be in the store. No one has come forward to claim it so far.
However the monkey lit up social media sites Sunday evening, with at least two separate Ikea monkey accounts springing up on Twitter. The hash tag ikeamonkey was also trending on the site in Toronto while Toronto Ikea was trending across Canada.

So? I mean, come on. It’s just a monkey in a coat. Haven’t we all seen monkeys in coats in Ikea? Right? I mean, right?

Why are people so shocked to find out that IKEA is not upscale?

So? I mean, come on. Its just a monkey in a coat. Havent we all seen monkeys in coats in Ikea? Right? I mean, right? But I can never get my Ikea monkey assembled properly. I always end up with a leg where the arm should be and an extra ear I don't know what to do with.

Notice the headline:
"Monkey seen in fancy winter coat at North York Ikea"
What? So now a monkey can't wear a fancy coat anymore?
And hey, his Christmas shopping isn't going to get done by itself.

I really hate monkeys, but I feel sorry for this little fellow. He probably is quite bewildered.

They should have checked the little sumbitch’s pockets for allen wrenches.
May be he was there to assemble some new display furniture.
