Talks to avoid a fiscal crisis appeared to stall on Wednesday as President Barack Obama accused Republicans of digging in their heels due to a personal grudge against him, while a top Republican called the president "irrational."
As the clock ticks toward a year-end deadline, Obama and House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, are trying to reach a deal to avert harsh tax hikes and spending cuts that could trigger a recession.
Obama said he was puzzled over what was holding up the talks and told Republicans to stop worrying about scoring "a point against the president" or forcing him into concessions "just for the heck of it." "It is very hard for them to say yes to me," he told a news conference in the White House. "At some point, you know, they've got to take me out of it."
The rise in tensions threatens to unravel significant progress made over the last week in the so-called fiscal cliff talks.
Boehner and Obama have each offered substantial concessions that have made a deal look within reach. Obama has agreed to cuts in benefits for seniors, while Boehner has conceded to Obama's demand that taxes rise for the richest Americans.

That is all he can do with this President. 0bama is a horrible deal maker. He wants the Boehner to guess what he will accept. If Boehner lays it out on the table, 0bama rejects it and says offer a better deal. Yet, 0bama will never reduce his demands to paper in a real offer.
0bama makes deals like Arafat. If you offer him something, it means you will really offer his something better. Or he can just let the house burn down and try to blame you for starting the fire.
The media will probably paint the GOP as the bad guys in this deal. But the facts will be that the House will be the only member of the threesome which actually votes out a bill. The Senate may say no but won’t counter with a bill of their own.
We’ll see once peoples paychecks start getting dinged with higher withholdings if that gets their attention enough to see that the GOP actually passed a bill but 0bama and the Dems in the Senate said no.

Obama hates the middle class. Just like Evita.
That’s my attitude, MAKE HIM VETO IT!
After that he owns what happens.
Ten to one he would sign it and then babble on
about how he didn’t want to but...
And on the bright side if he did sign it, you know
he can be “compromised” again.
Did any of you read the comments to the article?
We are in a world of trouble. Mostly left wing clueless lunatics espousing liberal fairytales about the economy and history.
I must live in an alternate universe.

I said this on FR before.
Obama has zero negotiating skills. Zero. He does not know how to negotiate with anybody.
He only knows to say, “This is what I want and if you don’t give it to me, you’re a blankity blank.”
Sorry you feel that way. Bonehead is a whimpish, trusting sort of a dufus, who's team hasn't won a game all season.
Obama's cutthroats have the ball and they're 10 points ahead with two minutes left in the game. What do you think they're going to do?!
Remember, their goal is to take advantage of a crisis and will one by shoving America OFF the cliff if they can get away with it.
It's this administrations modus operandi/Alinski model (e.g., fast & furious, benghazi, obamacare, arab spring, libya, sandy hook?, ...).
Obama, you spoiled brat. Everything always has to go your way or you get all pissy and wee-wee’d up, doncha? God, I can’t stand that ..... person.
So, if John Boehner and the House Republicans can manage to make it to tomorrow without caving in on something — always a big if — and they pass the Plan-B bill as promised, then there would be no reason for Obama to remain in Washington a minute longer than its passage, since he has declared he would not sign such a bill.
Of course, he will be expected to make a mean and nasty statement about the Republicans before leaving for Hawaii, all in the Christmas spirit of peace on earth and goodwill to men.
He will look the fool PROVIDED the MSM reports fairly. Betcha a dollar to a doughnut no matter what happens, the Republicans catch the blame, unless it turns out good, then ears gets the credit.
What a prick. It's all about him. It's always all about him.

Hey dipshit, it’s not about YOU.
We see our esteemed president belittling the republicans
as petty obstructionists when they are trying to do the
job for the American people that HE should be doing.
I think he has agreed to reduce the cost-of-living adjustments in SS.
Big whoop, I got a cola this year, first in two or three
and it was a gigantic EIGHT DOLLARS. Now I’m not gonna turn
it down but really...
All this from a POTUS who has never signed a budget, IIRC.
All this from a Potus who has never proposed a budget!
of it."
I wish this cocaine head would stop saying dumb sh*t like, “We need to raise taxes on ‘da rich’ because WE deserve it after the month we had with Sandy and now the shooting in Connecticut”. Obama is one sick, lowlife SOB.
Obama is threatening a veto? This guy does not care one way or another what happens. Let it burn baby and lets go over the cliff.

The article I read said that Obama was the one proposing the cuts to seniors.
