What does “universal draft” mean to you, bud?

Because they don’t like the messenger. Since the suggestion came from conservatives, the inclination is for the left leaning school bureaucracies to reject outright.

If the suggestion had come from Janet N.’s DHS, it would have been hailed as a stroke of received genius from on high.

I remember Sharon in 2000 walking up some religous relics stairs and behind him were dozens of civies with Galils. I’ll take a Galil over a handgun. But congrats on Israel on being the first unarmed mid east country, what an accomplishment.

Well, you got me there. So I'll just have to defer to your superior intelligence, perspicuity and memory.

From your comment #16 to me:

Since almost every Israeli citizen serves

Who serves in the army?
Israel is unique in that military service is compulsory for both males and females. It is the only country in the world that maintains obligatory military service for women.

Don't pretend to be an expert, and don't have a dog in that hunt - started doing some reading after a thread on Israel showed up after Newtown. "Who serves" seems confusing and controversial - Try here if you're interested.

Huh?

Check "properties" and look it up.

And that remark means what exactly?

80% of universal means 80% of 100%?

It seems you only want to argufy in the face of the obvious.

Ha. Yer describing yerself.

Here's what you said in your first comment to me:
Since almost every Israeli citizen serves...

And here's some relevant information; linked in my last post, but you must have missed it.

Despite a general impression that the majority of Israeli citizens are conscripted, only about 50% of potential conscripts actually serve in the military. Others do not serve for a variety of reasons, including religious study, minority community exemptions, refusing to serve, "low motivation", and a criminal record.

You might notice that “religious studies” is a biggie, and it amounts to a postponement not a waiver.

Sorry, you are still the irrelevant argufier. Once the religious studies postponement is factored out it becomes the 80% mentioned in my reference. So there.

80%. You've said it three times, so it must be true.

Ha Ha Ha.

Oh, and what about all those "guns galore" sitting around just waiting to be stolen. Pfft.

Hardly. The reason you can find pictures of Israeli women in bikinis on the beach sporting M16s is because the laws for losing those weapons are so draconian.

They are hardly "sitting around just waiting to be stolen" when you go to prison for allowing them to be stolen.

You're commenting to the wrong freeper.

If you read my comment (#20) to which you are replying you'll see that I was quoting (not quite word-for-word) the guy who jumped in with the claim "Since almost every Israeli citizen serves, as well as there being guns galore to steal".

He's wrong on both counts, IMO, though I don't know exact figures. Only about 50% of Israeli citizens actually serve, according to wiki, and my impression is that for whatever reason they don't in general appear to be careless in using or protecting their weapons (you may be right about harsh penalties.)

If you read all of my remarks in that comment you'll also see that I was disagreeing with and dismissing him with "Pffft".

Happy New Year, and happy and safe shooting (if you’re a gun owner).
