Some of the most common and most powerful prescription painkillers on the market will be restricted sharply in the emergency rooms at New York City’s 11 public hospitals, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said Thursday in an effort to crack down on what he called a citywide and national epidemic of prescription drug abuse.

I think of myself as being a good (but often snarky) Christian lady, but more than jst a few bad words burned through my brain when I read this.

Chronic pain has been my most unworthy opponent for more than 25 of my 47 years. I’ve had surgeries and taken ibuprofen until it chewed its way out and have plenty of experience at “managing” it. There’s pain and there’s breakthrough pain, which is a tough thing to wrestle down if it’s allowed to grow that fierce.

I secrectly pray Bloomberg gets a tooth abcess, needs urgent treatment to drain it and then a root canal. I’d be eternally grateful if his dentist would forget t give him novacane and T3’s afterward.

Bastard.

A doctor who’s never been in serious pain, OBVIOUSLY.

"I take it you've never had the pleasure of passing kidney stones? The pain is so bad you arel iterally screaming out of your mind"

Yep - very true. Thank God it was only for a few minutes. I imagine that's what it feels like to be disemboweled. The stone was probably the sharpest pain - compared to breaking about every type of bone in my body and having the outer layers of my eyes scraped away for PRK surgery. Also, trying to sleep with 3rd degree burns is pretty wicked.

But, who cares about any of that. I'm sure Bloomburger has it all figured out for the poor suckers who can't afford his privileged lifestyle.

By the way, does the camera distort his shape, or is he a bit chubby from over eating? His motto: (fill in the blank - e.g. fat) ______ for me and not for thee...

in a year and 1/2 I’ve passed well over 100 stones- It has gotten to htep oint I think where there might be scarring because the pain has lessened over that time with each stone-

With a stone, as you probably know, the pain begins in the back and feelsl ike someone has punched you in the kidneys- then the pain swings to the front whrre it becoems unbearable if hte stone is sharp and large enough- I liken the pain to hjaving a red hot wire threaded through the urethra and kept hot for 8 or so hours and the point of hte wire repeatedly jabbed into the flesh- Fortunately I’ve only had to go through that around five times as most of the hundred plus stones have either been small and only causedm inor dicomfort, or not sharp and pass through with little problem,-

Someoen mentioend that ‘pain is natural’ however, so is disease, yet we take all manner of medicatiosn to try to control disease, and I think it’s just silly to forego relief if it’s available- if you abstain from the relief, you don’t end up recovering any more thoroughly or better- yes, you will recover without pain meds, however, why? What’s the point? To prove ‘toughness’? Because oru ancestors had to endure pain? No thanks- We have help available to us today thanks to breakthroughs in medicines- and hwen needed, I’ll use them if possible- I’;m not out to pass some kind of toughman contest-
