The blogosphere has exploded with outrage in response to news that Walmart is suspending ammunition sales in anticipation of the Obama administration’s gun-control recommendations to Congress – but the retail giant tells WND the reports aren’t true.
“That information is inaccurate,” said Ashley Hardie, a spokeswoman located at Walmart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.
WND then asked whether the retail chain is cutting back on orders of ammunition.
“No,” Hardie said. “We’re continuing to serve our customers as we have in the past.”
She said Walmart’s ammunition sales policy has not changed, even amid talk of gun-control legislation in Washington, D.C.
The uproar began when the InvestmentWatch blog posted a story headlined, “Breaking & confirmed: Walmart is not going to order any more ammo.”
CNS News cited the report, and talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh mentioned it during his Monday show.
According to the InvestmentWatch report, a man claimed to have visited his local Walmart and noticed the store was “out of almost every kind of ammo.”

Don’t believe anything that their spokespeople say. Believe what is on their shelves.
Me and local Walmart (what, don’t you like the holders people’s term Walmarts?) have plenty rabbit rounds. Its the bigger stuff they sell out so fast.
The company may be calculating, but unlikely “cowering” as you assume. When any local entity refuses Walmart permit, it usually brings out a massive local outcry and the local pols give in. Like em or not they are a good place to shop.

Local WalMarts have continued to get small shipments in, but ammo has become scarce - even gun shops can’t keep ammo on the shelf.
I know for a fact that the door greeters are being phased out. Have a friend a corporate HR that was involved in the phase out process. There are still door greeters today, but as they leave, they will not be replaced. In many stores, they have been moved away from the entrances to well inside the store. In a couple of years, there will be no door greeters at all.
My husband tells me that the local WM still has guns and ammo.
Our greeters are still right at the door, in and out. One colorful old guy occasionally will be found in the entry area and on really nice days, right outside the front door.
Interesting that your store brought back fabric. Our fabric Center is still exactly the same size. There is no other fabric/notion option locally. I wish ours would bring back the Vision Center.
The merchandise selection at our store is horrible, IMO. Much nicer in all departments at both the stores in the nearest city. I think we get the clearance from other stores.

And this afternoon at about 1PM I was told to my face by the elderly Wal-Mart sporting goods clerk that ammo was “on hold” and wasn’t being resupplied. This is consistent with not accepting any more orders for ammo, computerized replenishment or not.
Yesterday, Jan/14 the regular Wal-Mart sporting goods clerk told me the warehouse was “empty” and popular calibers were gone as soon as she put them on the shelf. She can’t get replacement ammo fast enough but didn’t use the word “hold” in the conversation.
As usual, what we hear is all over the map, huh?
Ain’t no K-Marts in Texas anymore. Wouldn’t spend money there if there were. I HATE K-Mart! In fact, I wouldn’t even drive across their parking lot to get to Cabela’s on the other side.
Were the two Walmart sporting goods employees (in my case, the only one in the store with key to the ammo case) lying to us when they said ammo orders had been placed “on hold”? Why would they do that instead of just saying the distribution center — 20 miles up the road — is out of stock?
The phrasing makes perfect sense to me: Orders from dist. center to the stores are “on hold” (as in “sorry, pal, we can’t ship just now”) pending arrival at the dist. center from the manufacturer. The clerk I spoke to used the “out of stock” phraseology. I suspect the “on hold” phraseology is taken right off the computer screen when they check status...
No. That’s what I thought years ago - or assumed. My husband put me straight. They bought Sears with the agreement to change their holding name to that of Sears. It’s confusing and deceptive, but true.

There are close to 5,000 Walmarts in the US. To get a sense of what Walmart is planning, they always do a test run at the stores closest to the Home Office. Store #100 (right across the street from the Home Office) no longer has door greeters at the front, they’re being phased out. Store #5260 (Rogers, AR) is also experimented upon. Store #1 had self checkouts, which I believe have been ripped out. They are currently implementing a plan to rip out self-checkouts from all Walmarts.

Having used self-checkout at some store (forgotten) in the past, I am glad that WM is not implementing them nationwide. I hated them.
We all know all the greeters & they know us. It will be sad to see them go.
We are a small town of 4k in a rural area of under 30k. Any segment dropped by WM means an hour’s drive to obtain the item/service at a reasonable cost. It has been over 20 years since there was a sewing shop here, for example. There is one other grocery store and no one else sells housewares or domestics. Personally, we buy a lot of items online and sometimes, we purchase online from WM and it is delivered to the store.
OTOH, if WM stops stocking something, it means some entrepreneur has an opportunity.
Well....I'm glad to see that someone is doing well in the Obama economy.....
Clerk at my local wal-mart told me this afternoon that she expected restocking of ammo on March 1st.

I don’t think they want to be stuck w a huge inventory in the moments before they get banned again.
