President Barack Obama plans to use a Bible that belonged to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. as he takes his oath of office on the holiday honoring the slain icon, marking what some say is an inextricable tie between the nations first black president and the civil rights movement.
Its only the second time Inauguration Day has coincided with the King holiday. Some say its only fitting the celebrations are intertwined.
Its almost like fate and history coming together, said U.S. Rep. John Lewis, who worked alongside King in the fight for civil rights during the 1950s and 60s and plans to attend the inauguration. If it hadnt been for Martin Luther King Jr., there would be no Barack Obama as president.
Some King commemorations have been shuffled around to accommodate the inauguration, though others are going on as planned.
Kings youngest daughter, Bernice King, plans to attend the observance of her fathers memory at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, where he preached, and said she doesnt fear the inauguration will overshadow the celebration.
I think it enhances the observance, actually, because it heightens peoples awareness about the King holiday, she said. I also think it gives some sort of validation to the significant work that my father made to this country, to this world, in fact.
The only other time a presidential inauguration has fallen on the King holiday was in 1997 at the start of President Bill Clintons second term. Clinton invoked Kings memory in his inaugural address, and events were planned throughout the inauguration weekend to commemorate King.

Back in 1994 MLK day was held on Jan 17th. That was the day of the Northridge earthquake. I thought the Lord might have been showing his displeasure at the time.
What you said. There are days I don't feel like I have a country any more, given there are so many brain dead fools running around in it.
The media wants to make this to be some rare celestial event, a planetary occlusion where Uranus eclipses itself.
“Back in 1994 MLK day was held on Jan 17th. That was the day of the Northridge earthquake. I thought the Lord might have been showing his displeasure at the time.”
Yeah, whenever one thinks of MLK, the first thing that comes to mind is Northridge, the earthquake, traffic on the 405 and the goofy CSUN sign.
Well, the country's anus is certainly eclipsing itself, that's for sure.
Neither day has any significance to me
Obama is a product of what King promoted
Despite his BS koolaid whitey lapped up
Now dumb white libs drink the same crap lisped to their ears via Obama
Seems quite racist to me to label him ‘black’, therefore, ignoring his mother was white...has he got a problem with that....why not admit to being BI-RACIAL?
Tis a combination of Elvis and the Twilight Zone without Jesse Jackson. Wait. Frank Zappa did it better.
Remember that whenever DNA is being smeared around Jesse is there. The great counselor at the White House with his girl friend—Jesse was the original “Rhymin’ Man”.
“You been cheatin”
It briefly quotes several musical themes, including: The Twilight Zone Theme (Constant), Marche Funèbre (Frédéric Chopin), Mission: Impossible (Schifrin), The Untouchables (Riddle), Mississippi Mud (Cavanaugh/Barris), Happy Days Are Here Again (Yellen/Ager), Entrance of the Gladiators (Fucik), Havah Nagilah (trad.), Hail To The Chief (Sanderson/Scott), La Cucaracha (trad.), Frère Jacques (trad.), My Sharona (Fieger/Averre) and Hallelujah I’m A Bum (McClintock)]
The vocalist singing sounds like Johnny Cash—strange it is.
Shouldn’t that title read:
“The Coronation of First Black King...”
If I had a Black Armband, I would wear it to work tomorrow.
Not to mourn MLK, but to mourn the second coming of Pharaoh Obama, the Dictator In Chief. Four more years of Hell on Earth, what a wonderful cause for celebration.
The only good thing about tomorrow (Monday) will be Mark Steyn filling in for Rush. He is always entertaining and makes me laugh out loud when doing his monologue.
April 8 for me. I’ll send you belated greetings.
I happened to be somewhere yesterday morning where I could not escape the TV which had CNN playing their Kabuki. The network bigwigs were there all sitting out on the grass or somewhere that overlooked large empty fields, where they kept remarking about the millions that were there 4 years ago, AND that they expected over 600 that day around noon.....
I don’t know about any of you, but I never saw any pictures or TV shots of throngs of Inaugural Adorers...I just saw clips of the a$$hat Biden getting sworn in again. I didn’t even bother the the Kenyan’s ritual.
