MIT issued an emergency alert at 10:48 on Thursday night reporting shots fired on the university campus. The school newspaper reports, "Shots fired near 32 Vassar St (Stata Center), police officer down. Please stay inside." That report is backed up by CBS News's Bonney Kapp who reports hearing "officer down" on the police scanner just before the MIT alert went out. For now, details are scarce, but the suspect is on the loose and considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Why is the audio from these police scanners available to the general public over the internet, etc.? Maybe the suspect(s) is listening in, and moving accordingly?

Fox News showing robot from bomb squad exploding a device. The reporter also said it’s confirmed this is related to marathon bombers. They are saying FBI suspect #1 is now dead at Beth Israel hospital.

FWIW, a previously unknown Irish antidefamation group affiliated with the IRA had been expressing grievances against MIT for profiling illegal Irish immigrants.
I have been wondering if the fire/explosion at the JFK Library was a clue or a message since the kennedys were fervent supporters of the IRA.
The pressure cooker bombs were used by the IRA before the muslims adopted them. This was their exact MO for years. It might be possible they had intended a hit on MIT and were caught in the act. Just might be a twofer. islam and ira have partnered up before.
