Napolitano Admits DHS Knew of Boston Bomber’s Russia Trip

Slipped through her fingers: Big sis admits DHS knew Boston jihadist traveled to Russia in 2012.

-

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stunned a Senate panel when she admitted that her agency knew of alleged Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev's trip to Russia last year even though his name was misspelled on a travel document, as she testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on sweeping immigration amnesty legislation.

The admission that her department was aware of Tsarnaev's six-month trip to Dagestan - a hotbed of radical Islamic activity - surprised two 'Gang of Eight' senators, Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who had been using an the hearing to try and establish that the DHS didn't catch his travels under the current visa system, and that their amnesty bill would fix the apparent glitch. This was clearly not the case, raising further disturbing questions about why U.S. security services failed to keep track of the man who went on to kill 4 people in Boston last week.

Both senators had claimed that the misspelling caused the FBI to miss the trip. Graham, told the secretary that it contradicted what he'd been told by the FBI:

"They told me that they had no knowledge of him leaving or coming back so I would like to talk to you more about this case," Graham told Napolitano.

Napolitano said that even though Tsarnaev's name was misspelled, "redundancies in the system" allowed his departure to be captured by U.S. authorities in January 2012:

"The system pinged when he was leaving the United States. By the time he returned all investigations had been closed," Napolitano said.

The Russia trip is now seen as important to determining how and when Tsarnaev, the older Boston bomber who died in a firefight with police, became radicalized, and whether he had ties to others.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was investigated by the FBI at Russia's request and his name was included in a federal government travel-screening database after that, law enforcement officials have told The Associated Press.

As SWA reported yesterday, Russian security services warned the FBI in November 2012 that Tsarnaev was seen meeting – six times – with a person involved in militant Islamic underground movement in Dagestan. This Islamist leader, Gadzhimurad Dolgatov (who also went by the name Amir Abu Dujana) was killed after a fierce gunbattle with Russian security forces in Dagastan in December 2012

The visit “would lead one to believe that that’s probably where he got that final radicalization to push him to commit acts of violence and where he may have received training” in terrorist techniques, U.S. House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Mike Rogers told NBC.

Yet another claim by the amnesty advocates is exposed, and a new twist to the disturbing story of the "jihadist who got away" emerges which further undermines trust that the DHS can effectively protect Americans from the massive increase of foreigners with visas that the 'Gang of Eight' bill would bring to our shores.

“What” is right!

Someone ask President Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano why in hell they are taking hundreds of billions from the tax payers every year, for this monstrous Homeland Security apparatus?

These people need to resign now!

No, it doesn’t...just a phone call. BUT! She didn’t have to call him anyway...He already knew. I read here early this morning his wife visited this mysterious Saudi at the hospital.

Yeah, that FLOTUS trip is scary. Something is really really wrong there. The fact that they did this during the tragedy is even scarier. They are up to something.

Republicans should immediately ask for her resignation, but as usual this will be their response to all this:

I'm not concerned about terrorists.

I'm far more concerned about the lack of screening for tuberculosis and other communicable diseases

Terrorists can only bump off a few hundred or even a few thousand of us, maybe a city full with the right weapons.

An anti-biotic resistant strain of TB brought in by just one immigrant from anywhere, perhaps unknown to themselves, can wipe out many millions of us.

We need to return to screening of ALL people who enter our country as well, as returning citizens who have visited countries known to have problems, for diseases.

Forget the knives, guns and bombs, they are nothing compared to an epidemic.

“By the time he returned all investigations had been closed.”

“ALL” investigations? How many investigations were there? And did they just close themselves, as indicated by her use of the passive voice, or did someone close them?

My normal reaction in cases like this is WTF???

But in this case I can be more specific: WTFF???

They not only allowed him to fly out, they allowed him to fly right back to the U.S. like some family from the Israel going to Disneyland..

If this is all in fact true, President Obama should immediately go public on television and demand Homeland Security Boss Napolitano step down and then do the right thing and resign his Presidency, effective this Friday and 12:00 noon.

I don't know who wrote the Wall St Journal article you posted but it is dang near unreadable. And for a reason, I think.

For example:Almost immediately after the FBI’s first contacts with Tsarnaev became known, Russia insisted that they tried to warn the US about him, and that the FBI didn’t respond to them. The FBI now claims the same thing about Russian intelligence”

Then they say:The FBI interview was conducted at Russia’s request...So, the FBI is claiming that Russia didn't warn them, they just requested that he be interviewed? What? So the FBI interviewed him, cause the Russians asked, but they never asked the Russkies why they needed to do the interview?

‘Russia insisted that they tried to warn the US about him, and that the FBI didn’t respond to them. The FBI now claims the same thing about Russian intelligence”

The FBI now claims the same thing? What was that? According to how this is written, the FBI tried to warn the Russians? About what since they supposedly didn't know anything.

This is not the first article I've read which is all over the map and makes no sense. Someone is definitely trying their best to hide the ball. And, they will probably get away with it.

The fact is, and the best I can tell from what I have read: The FBI interviewed Tsarnaev. That they aren't denying. At this time. But they seem to be denying that they had any idea he had terrorist ties? So, why in the hell would they be interviewing him?

Heck, I'm confusing myself. And that's what they want.

The FBI interview was conducted at Russia’s request and produced no suspicious links, said a senior U.S. law enforcement official. Repeated follow-up questions to Russian authorities about Mr. Tsarnaev went unanswered, U.S. officials said.”

Yeah that’s a lie! The FBI is lying. I believe the Russians!!!!! The Russians are trying to clean up terrorist scum so that their people don’t get killed. Under this administration there are orders to play policitally correct games that have put americans lives at risk, on purpose. They should’ve deported him on the russian info, he already had an arrest for domestic violence, and the russian tip shoulda been the last straw. stuck him on a plane and let Russia deal with him.

Someone is definitely trying their best to hide the ball.

See tag line below.

And no, they won't get away with this. Too many dead, too maimed for life, too many victims demanding answers from these people.

They know exactly what occurred here. This isn't rocket science and #1 and #2 were clearly not very sophisticated.

The big question is:

Where's Obama's news conference demanding Homeland Security Secretary Janet resign?

At minimum this should happen before the sun goes down in D.C.
