Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that despite the portrayal by the media of a deal for advanced missiles to be purchased from Russia as a future event, the fact is that Syria has already begun acquiring the S-300 missile system from Moscow.

This will more likely be used against Turkish aircraft, and a deterrence for any NATO moves. Assad would be an idiot to use them offensively and start a war when he is already overwhelmed with foreign terrorists.
Israel should be worried about them afterwards, but currently its not an issue to them because they don’t have a dog in this fight. Assad is the lesser evil of the two so he is their best choice.
Turkey on the other hand, along with the gulf arab countries who are arming and financing and transporting the terrorists to Syria do havea dog in this fight and Turkey has been showing signs that It might get involved at some point.
I think that is the angle Assad is using the s-300 for. Not everything is about Israel.

If our a$$hole administration supports the rebels, clearly, then I don’t have an issue with Russia sending missles to Assad—everything Odumbo does is against what we stand for. So I say support Assad.

What makes you think the Russians can not build an effective air defense system?

The numerous Arab dance parties centering around the wreckage of shot-down Israeli and American fighter jets is proof positive of the effectiveness of Russian air defense systems.

Oh, wait...

Yep. You can kiss that no fly zone that the House of Saud wants, goodbye.

Fairly obvious now that the US is being out gamed in every arena. The reason, we are being led by idiots.

Dear DC - The Russians are 3 steps ahead of you. The Chinese, 4-5 steps.

“Not everything is about Israel.”

Bingo

This is about three powers fighting over control of Mecca and islam.
The Saud (Hanbali) the Turks (Hanafi) the Persians (shia).
This fight was old and hot before there was an Israel.
Israel could vanish and these three would still be at each others throats.

All that has changed is that the Saudis are the sole remaining US ally - all three were 40 years ago.

Putin is sending a message that Russia is still backing Iran’s gambit.

Is this the same system that Iran used to capture one of our untouchable drone aircraft?

I remember when an “inferior” Soviet AA system knocked down Gary Powers - and the crow the Soviets made US experts eat in public.

And, not by coincidence, level of pro-NeoSoviet agitprop is reaching another crescendo.
