California Assembly approves minimum wage increase

SACRAMENTO -- The Assembly voted on Thursday to increase the minimum wage in California over the next three years, hiking it from $8 an hour to $9.25.

Assemblyman Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), the author of the bill, said higher wages would “allow our families to provide for their children, pay their bills and give them dignity and respect.”

Starting in 2017, the bill would also require the state to increase the minimum wage at a rate equivalent to inflation.

The legislation now goes to the state Senate. Previous efforts by Alejo have stalled in the Capitol.

Republicans opposed the bill (AB 10), saying it would harm the economy by making it harder for companies to employ new workers

“You can’t legislate on your hopes," said Assemblyman Donald Wagner (R-Irvine). "You have to legislate in the real world. You’re not doing it if you support this bill.”

California's minimum wage is among the highest in the country although it hasn't been raised in more than five years.

In Completely-Unrelated News From The Future: Dateline 2017; California’s economic woes deepened further, according to the latest data. The slide, which was already underway in 2013, steepened over the next 3 years, and is now among the worst in the US. Economists are mystified as to why the ever-fewer remaining businesses in California continue to search for ways out of the state.

Particularly hard-hit are low-income earners. Despite one of the highest minimum wages in the country, fewer and fewer jobs are available, and ever fewer of those go to unskilled workers or those just entering the workforce.

The one bright spot among all the economic news is that union wages continue to climb, with California unions paying some of the highest wages anywhere.

From the article..
“You can’t legislate on your hopes,” said Assemblyman Donald Wagner (R-Irvine). “You have to legislate in the real world. You’re not doing it if you support this bill.”

Isn’t that how the left legislates on any issue?

The minimum wage is an idea straight from Karl Marx and Big Labor...as if there’s any difference between them. Abolish the minimum wage and apply the RICO laws to end the evil scourge of unions and watch prosperity return to America.

As if there are not enough “at risk” homeboys unable to get a job already.

Unions will do well, however.

Unions are job and prosperity killers. Look at the states free from the stranglehold of these labor thugs -- that's where business is booming.

Yes, I know. My point was that Union wages are actually tied to the Minimum Wage, though not everyone is aware of that. When it goes up, their pay goes up too. It’s one of the side-effects of a minimum wage hike, and makes the economic decline that much worse on top of the MW’s damage.

Speaking of which, have you noticed that all the Radio stations have taken out the word “faggot” from that song?

Either the entire verse is omitted or the word is changed.

I guess being “artistic” only works for Crucifixes inside jars of urine. Hypocrites, every one of them.

Why in the world is Alaska a union state?

Union goons and the minimum wage are vile twins. Both are opposed to freedom and liberty, creating an adversarial, poisoned relationship between the job makers and workers.

If you ever want to see the face of pure evil, look into the history of Frances Perkins, a key player in the Franklin Diablo Roosevelt dictatorship. So much of what's wrong with America can be traced directly to this despicable woman who championed unionism and the minimum wage:

Rush is right. If they were really compassionate, they would raise the minimum wage to $100/hr. Since raising the minimum wage has no negative impact, raising it to $100/hr will make everyone wealthy with no harm done!

Because without the Government nobody has dignity or gets any respect.
Consider yourself lucky that the Government affords you CA residents this offering.
Because what they give you they can take away, like your dignity and any respect.

Why in the world is Alaska a union state?

In spite of good people like the Palin family, there are a number of low-lifes in Alaska. Such scum are attracted to unions and form the core of their membership. Having spent some time in Alaska, I can assure you it doesn't have the spirit of liberty and enterprise that we're used to here in Texas.

I think Mark Knopfler simply caved. No radio station here:

The CA legislators probably banned that song (it offends some of them).
