Dem Rep: Obama Should 'Go Back and Read His Own Speeches' on Privacy
Big Government ^ | 6/7/2013 | Mike Flynn

As the scope of the government's spying on private citizens becomes clear, left-wing politicians are openly criticizing Obama and his Administration. Long critical of Bush-era anti-terror policies, many had expected Obama to end these practices, rather than expand him. MD Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings said, "I think the president needs to go back and read his own speeches.”

“I’m very concerned that this is basically a continuation of the policies of the Bush administration and the abuses of the Patriot Act. I’d like to see better out of this administration,” OR Rep. Peter DeFazio told Politico.

The Obama Administration isn't just continuing policies begun under Bush, in many cases they are expanding them. He has greatly expanded the drone program and uses is regularly to assassinate suspected terrorists. The massive database of phone records also includes on-line data and internet activity. Combined with the seizure of reporters' phone and email records, the new revelations show an Administration obsessed with monitoring individuals' behavior.

““I’m very concerned that this is basically a continuation of the policies of the Bush administration and the abuses of the Patriot Act.”

Actually, what is occurring right now is an exponentially expanded version of the Patriot Act far beyond what the Bush administration believed they could accomplish.

Heck, O-blamer has put Bush's policies on more steroids than Barry Bonds ever took!

Speeches are nothing more than talking points
Its time for Zippey to acknowledge that he isnt trusted
Trust isn’t just given ; it is learned by observing past behavior!

Its time for Zippey to walk the walk
not to just talk the talk !

It’s not just a privacy issue. I think that if this surveillance capability had existing during the early days of our nation, the Founders would have prohibited it in the 3rd Amendment which prohibits quartering of troops in our homes. After all, the gov is posting military troops in our homes via our devices. It’s not some high school hacker on the other end.

the unwillingness of guys like Cummings to stand up against illegal activities by Obama and his admin in the past is why they think they can get away with pretty much anything now.

They are only slightly less guilty than Obama is.

"I think the president needs to go back and read his own speeches.”

He didn't "read" them the first time, unless you count the teleprompter.

All this spying didn’t stop the Boston bombers. What good is it doing?

If Mr. Cummings is so concerned Obama stepped over the line, demand he be the one to file Articles of Impeachment.

Agree 100%. And the one thing they could have done that would have made a hugh difference, listening to the Russians, they poo-pooed. That intelligence came from the Russians, and what do they know? That intelligence wasn't worthy of the NSACIAFBI. Not invented here mentality, etc.

IMHO, a large part of this is just smoke to get us "used to" being spied on. Think Orwell's book 1984. And if you haven't read it, do so soon. The parallels are astonishing.
