Sen. Rubio says most of immigration reform bill in ‘perfect shape’ By Meghashyam Mali - 06/16/13 10:42 AM ET

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Sunday said that much of the Gang of Eight’s immigration reform bill was in “perfect shape,” but added he would insist on tougher border security measures.

Rubio, one of the authors of the bill, was asked if he still supported it on ABC’s “This Week.”

“I think it's an excellent starting point, and I think 95, 96 percent of the bill is in perfect shape and ready to go. But there are elements that need to be improved. This is how the legislative process is supposed to work,” said Rubio.

The Tea Party favorite, seen as critical to winning conservative support for the measure, has called for more stringent border security requirements.

On Sunday Rubio declined to say if he would vote against the bill without those added provisions.

“I don't really want to get involved in these hypotheticals and ultimatums,” he said.

Rubio said he was optimistic that senators could craft a border deal.

“Because the bottom line is a bill that does not have increased border security, which everyone now I think has conceded needs to happen -- I think the debate now is about what that border security provision looks like,” he said.

Rubio has taken sharp criticism from many on the right who fear he will help push through a bill they see as providing amnesty to illegal immigrants and abandon efforts for border enforcement.

“On virtually every other issue, I agree with many of the folks that right now are just not supportive of the immigration reform bill,” seeking to downplay any divide. “I understand why they are opposed to it. I really do. I mean, we have the most generous country in the history of the world, whose immigration laws have been taken advantage of. “

Rubio was asked to respond to a statement from conservative commentator Ann Coulter that he was being “played” by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) in immigration talks.

“I don't even know what that means,” said Rubio.

Don’t bother complaining to your elected representative, because they will not listen to you, and do not care, because they were bought and paid for a long time ago by interests who put profit above country.

Your rep does not need you. They can have a luncheon with a lobbyist & garner 250,000 votes.

This is what Rubio has always wanted. He’s just never been honest or brave enough to admit it. And he still hides behind his bogus claim that there must be effectve border security or he’ll oppose the bill.

The Bart Stupak of the immigration debate.

He just voted against border security first by voting down the Grassley amendment.

Rubio, lying sack of manure.

In a way, Schumer and the gang are correct, with this bill, border security is meaningless, you let in on top of the 20 million here, another 20 to 40 million people with chain migration. It costs $6 trillion for all the poor immigrants. Tax the white middle class Christians and it's payback of all paybacks.

Of course, the country collapses, but that's OK too.

Nothing in the new bill is going to be enforced, if passed, except amnesty. Everything else is a big lie. Rubio is the face of the Big Lie.

You are correct sir! Rubio along with Christie and Jeb Bush have no chance of earning conservative support for 2016. I’ve had it with liberal republicans.

Whichever one of these or another that the elites want will be the nominee. The days that the sheeple determined this have long passed.

What’s going to happen in the next few weeks, possibly by July 4th, the Senate will pass the amnesty bill.

At the same time the House is going to pass a Trojan horse bill that will sound good and that will secure the borders.
The problem with that Is they’re both going to be sent to conference committee, where amnesty is going to be added to the Trojan horse bill.

The Senate will vote yes on final passage and send it to the House. Led by Nancy Pelosi, the House Democrats will ALL vote for the bill because it will assure permanent Democratic political majority,
and a few Republican committee chairs will provide the final votes needed for passage.

That way the president will have amnesty for illegals and the country will be fast tracked to permanent progressivism.

Contact your congresscritters and let them know YOU know. Alert all the people you can to do the same.

Rubio’s reasoning:

The part about government programs for new immigrants is in place.
The part about them being legal residents from day one is in place.
The part about increasing the legal flow of Mexicans into the U.S. to 2 million per year, is in place.
The part about them getting free access to our schools, our medical centers, our social security services... is in place
The part about them getting earned income tax credit from here on out is in place.
The part about them getting citizenship, not quite there yet.

I agree with 95 to 96% of this.

Right on. I don’t get people being so willfully blind to this guy and many others. I guess reality is simply too painful; also normalcy bias. Rubio is a traitor and knowingly complicit - he isn’t blackmailed. He is securing a place for his family as a part of our new noble class.

I far as I’m concerned he and many others have sold their souls as have the handful of “conservative” talking heads on the radio and T.V. - which is why they are in the position they are in. Maybe not all the local radio personalities - but they understand full well what positions they need to advocate or disapprove of if they want to continue in the business.

I would contend since the mid-90’s most of talk radio and T.V. news has been a scripted hoax intended to subtlety deceive and control the perimeters of accepted thought and ideas. Recall Limbaugh’s 10 point kook test.

If you are saying that just because Schumer is smiling in this picture with the Gang of 8 means they are getting played........you'd be right.

These people are delusional.
We have so many more important things that need fixed before we can even begin to absorb tens of millions of foreign invaders.

Rubio voted against the Grassley amendment.

What is the hurry on pushing this bill (like Obamacare) through.

Now, if this were going to help the GOP, do you think Obama and Chuck would be all for this. It was a set up from day one. Marco is going to be so damaged, he will have a difficult time winning back his seat in Florida. But, more to point, he is helping America to be forever transformed.
