If you leave from the Moscow airport, fly to Saint Petersburg...there’s an Icelandic Air connection from there....four hours and you are on Iceland. What idiot would would want to fly into Venezuela?

Venezuela is an open country with too many easy borders and seacoasts where thug teams can slip in and remain unnoticed.
You could send a platoon of SEALs (in onesies and twosies until they linked up) into Venezuela by yacht, parachute, helicopter, submarine, truck, bus, etc, and they would not be noticed.
Then it’s like the scene in “Act of Valor.” Here comes the pizza man, whoops, it’s 16 SEALs with a special roll of carpet.
Iceland is MUCH tougher for spooks to operate in. With at total population of 350K Nordic types, Snowden will blend in where a “rendition team” arriving at the airport will not. They could land a team by submarine, but then what? The lone CIA guy in Iceland meets them at the beach with a minivan to take them to a safe house? Please. That won’t happen. (There are hardly any roads on Iceland anyway.)
Perhaps they could try an ersatz fishing vessel. Again, it would stick out like a sore thumb.

There was a link to an article on Drudge that some Wikileaks guy had a chartered a flight to Iceland on the ready for Snowden.
My guess is Fast Eddie didn't completely trust the Wikileaks guy or chartered flights.
Methinks he is on is way to Iceland but it ain't going to be a direct flight.
If I were him I wouldn't be making any stops in Moscow, to have a look-see at Putin's Patriot ring.

Yes, a fugitive wouldn’t even last one year there before disappearing or suffering an “accident”. Iceland is a far safer choice. But his off-island vacation options might be severly limited. LOL
