"...Marinwood-area residents waving placards to protest affordable housing plans packed a Civic Center hearing Monday, making clear they do not want as many new neighbors as county officials are trying to pave the way for. ...With signs depicting a red slash through a circle targeting a three-story affordable complex, the crowd made its views known as a parade of speakers debated merits of an affordable housing zone program under review by the Planning Commission..."

Marin is the home town of American Taliban John Walker Lindh. They are as lefty and superior as they come. Except, when it comes to actually having to confront their espoused political views … you know…having one of …THEM…living next to you. For extra points, try to find a non-white in any of the news photographs. Like Finding Waldo amongst the polar bears

Some fun facts about the very liberal, very white folks in lovely Marin:
“…Since the 1990s, it has become one of the Democrats’ major strongholds in both California and the nation. Out of California counties, only San Francisco County and Alameda County voted more Democratic in the 2008 Presidential election, all three counties voted more heavily for Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama than Cook County, Illinois, Obama’s home county…”

Race and ethnicity[edit]
According to the 2010 United States Census, the racial composition of Marin County was as follows:
• White: 72.8% (non-Hispanic)
• Hispanic or Latino (of any race): 15.5%
• Asian: 5.4%
• Two or more races: 2.9%
• Black: 2.6% (non-Hispanic)
• Native American: 0.2%
• Pacific poor Islander: 0.2%
Other: 0.4%

This is the Marin County version of Selma. Except, it’s the uber liberal Democrat Marinites who don’t want the unwashed poor and minority bringing down their property values, channeling Ole Bull Conner

Too bad.
With immigration increasing (especially in CA) the people have to go somewhere. Your neighborhood is just as good as any other.

If you went out and bought a property today....in an average neighborhood...you’d likely have to spend around $750,000 to get a good decent place.

I worked with a guy who bought property in southern California in the early 1990s...valued at $300,000, which was a hefty amount then. When he left six years later, it was valued at $600,000...doubling in nature. He questioned how it could possibly do this, and there was no sense about it.

So if you spent that much money on a property...you sure as heck wouldn’t want some idiot to march in and create low-value homes within two blocks of you. It’d be like putting up a trailer-court next to a block of houses valued at $250,000. It would upset the balance of nature.

Marin is beautiful so let’s advocate for the “affordable” housing units and then buy them all! The commie libs would hate it if conservatives moved in to the neighborhood.

I was a teenager when “Serial” came out. I loved it.

Alarmingly enough, I don’t think things have changed there much since the movie was filmed.

These people are NIMBY’s (Not In My Back Yard).

We have several areas in the inner cities of Minneapolis-St Paul that are the exclusive domain of over-educated white liberals. I could easily see the same kind of protest happen in these so-called “open-minded, progressive” communities as well.

I wonder if this is a spill over from G.Lucas liquidating his property to a developer after a long drawn out battle with the NIMBY’s. If it is it would be poetic justice. FWIW the BART systems'original plan had the northern terminal as being in Marin rather than the Del Norte station. The Marinites didn't want any of “those people” having easy access from across the bay. After all they already had their obligatory enclave aka Marin City.

I see nothing wrong they should place new housing in Marin. Why? I believe Barbara Bagel Boxer lives in Marin =).

Love Marin and lived there many years. Not sure if Barbara Boxer lives there but they are definitely in their own world of beauty and have created an exclusive atmosphere that is not to be ruined. Marin City is a blight already and needs to be razed. The real estate value of that place is astronomical. How the crackers can get rid of the “others” is the question.
