Zimmerman prosecution's case marked by several highlights
The Orlando Sentinel ^ | July 6, 2013 | Rene Stutzman and Jeff Weiner

In the nine days the state spent laying out its second-degree-murder case against George Zimmerman at his trial, prosecutors questioned 36 witnesses and submitted 200 items of evidence......

Though it's unclear whether Zimmerman will testify, jurors have already seen and heard from him in audio and videotaped interviews he made in the days and months after he shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Prosecutors contend those statements will help prove his guilt.

Here are some of the highlights of the prosecution's case:

A half-dozen police officers testified. Two Sanford officers stood out: lead investigator Chris Serino and Tim Smith, the first officer on the scene.

Both described Zimmerman as cooperative and compliant.

The state got one of its biggest boosts of the trial Tuesday when Serino testified that two of Zimmerman's words to a dispatcher moments before the shooting — "[expletive] punks" — showed that he had ill will toward Trayvon.

That is one of the key elements that prosecutors must prove for a second-degree-murder conviction: that the defendant acted with a depraved mind, hatred, evil intent or ill will.

Serino testified that he doubted some details of Zimmerman's account but that he could find no solid evidence to dispute it. Zimmerman gave four recorded statements to police, including a video walk-through the day after the shooting.

Smith arrived within moments of the shooting, handcuffed Zimmerman and seized his 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, which he had placed back in a waist holster.

Smith testified that the back of Zimmerman's jacket and pants was wet, and the back of his jacket had grass clippings on it. He also saw blood coming from Zimmerman's nose and from cuts to the back of his head.

"He stated to me that he was yelling for help but nobody came to help him," Smith said................

The media effort is like with elections: to make the contest a “horse race”, so as to stretch it out.

The defense may call her back this week to give her the opportunity to elaborate — after she gets to watch Ben Crump taken apart on the stand right in front of her.

paying attention and watching/reading here know this will not be a guilty finding

Sorry, but we don't know that the verdict will be "Not guilty." We don't know how liberal these jurors are; if they are all liberals, the verdict will be "Guilty as charged."

Think about how upside down this case is: Don't liberal juries usually return verdicts of "Not Guilty" but in this case a liberal jury is expected to return one of "Guilty as charged"???

These Slantinel reporters are horrible.....Det Serino said there were no inconsistencies in Zimmerman testimony.

The prosecutors have only proven they are corrupt....and Zimmerman is innocent

Anyone that doesn’t think this was self defense is an idiot.

I hope the defense deposes Daryl Parks and axes him about his statement in this article:

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/04/03/justice/florida-teen-shooting/index.html

“On Monday, agents interviewed Martin’s girlfriend, the 16-year-old girl who, phone records show, was on the line with him shortly before the fatal confrontation, Martin family attorney Daryl Parks confirmed Tuesday.”

So then who did the FBI interview that day — because that Monday was April 2nd, the Monday that Bernie was interviewing Rachel Jeantel, the 18-year-old.

This jury must have some realization, that, they risk ostracization and shunning from friends and family if they convict Zimmerman...when it is clear it was self defense. Jury will worry more about riots within their homes than the riots in the Black Ghettos

By now this judge has to know that GZ is not guilty. By Tuesday she will have even more evidence of that and by Friday it will be overwhelming.

If she had one honorable bone in her body she would protect those six members of the jury from ostracization and potential retribution by making the decision herself instead of dumping it on them.

But there is not an honorable bone in her body or anyone else’s around her or above her.

I think a hung jury might be the best outcome.

Everything then goes back into limbo, no reason to riot (not that a reason is needed), procecution then has to decide if they will re-try, after about six months of no word, no publicity, they quietly decide to not re-try the case.

The best outcome for the state may be a hung jury but not for Zimmerman.

The state is then vindicated for bringing the charges and gets to save face by not refiling them.

And what makes anyone think that that decision not to refile atleast for manslaughter charges won’t cause riots???

Zimmerman is then left with paying his own legal bills and subsequent civil suits.

A hung jury helps the state but not Zimmerman.

I truly believe that if it is a hung jury....Then whomever made it so is a plant.

There is absolutely no evidence that this was not self defense.

IMO GZ has already lost whether convicted or not. A hung jury would probably help avoid massive riots. GZ needs to move far far away and the state should quietly find a way to pay his bills. Sorry to say that the interest of justice is not being served.

That's not an indictment, nor a grand jury. That's a bogus group running their mouth so people can send them money.

Malicious prosecution is a civil matter.

The way to take out Angela Corey is through an election by the people in her district or if the Florida State Bar takes action.

Yep -- they can't have watched the same trial that all of us have.

GZ has already lost whether convicted or not.

GZ had already lost when 12 y/o Saint Trayvon decided to assault him that evening. From that moment on, the question was how badly would he lose. Being armed reduced the short-term loss. Having been attacked by a son of Obama increased the long-term loss.

Very little being said about the outrageously biased judge who is controlling the presentation of which evidence can be revealed. While her prosecution ass-kissing may help the state in the short run-if Z loses there are many decisions she has made that are probably open to appeal.

My neighbor is a criminal court judge and she still can't believe half the stuff this judge is being allowed to get away with. She considers the whole trial as nothing more than a political sham-and she's a democrat.
