REUTERS/Baz Ratner New reports of strikes on Russian anti-ship missiles near the port of Latakia, Syria, seem to indicate another possible Israeli strike, Reuters reports.
This would be the fourth such strike this year.
Rebels described huge blasts - the ferocity of which, they said, was beyond the firepower available to them but consistent with that of a modern military like Israel's.
Israel has not confirmed or denied involvement. The Syrian government has not commented on the incident, beyond a state television report noting a "series of explosions" at the site.
As has been the trend, Israel has neither confirmed nor denied the strikes.
Israel warned Russia just this May not to arm Syria with missiles.
"At this stage I can't say there is an escalation. The shipments have not been sent on their way yet. And I hope that they will not be sent," said Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon last May . But "if God forbid they do reach Syria, we will know what to do."
Though Yaalon's warning was about s300 anti-aircraft missiles, the anti-ship missiles at Syria's port could easily threaten Israeli or American ships operating in the Mediterranean.
From Reuters:
Such weaponry, Israeli officials have made clear, would include the long-range Yakhonts, which could help Hezbollah repel Israel's navy and endanger its offshore gas rigs.
Yaalon has already been asked about the blasts reported in Latakia, and his words remained largely the same, telling reporters, "We have set red lines in regards to our own interests, and we keep them.

Another natural gas leak accident.
“How dies Putin respond?”
He doesn’t. He has been coordinating with Israel all along. Contrary to popular opinion, Putin is not satan.
“We have set red lines in regards to our own interests, and we keep them.”
I remember a day when our leaders would say such a thing.
Russian missiles spontaneously exploding?
I’d ask Russia for my money back.
Actually, that phrase has more to do with Masada, but your point is well taken.
National security. You must be joking. The US government could care less about the security of US citizens. Just ask Ambassador Stevens or residents living along the US southern border. The worse possible outcome is for terrorists in Syria getting a hold of WMD and attacking Israel. That is concern number 1 for Israel and appears to be the last concern of Obama and the Oligarchy.
>> “one Russian ICBM on Tel Aviv would end Israel.” <<
.
Read your Bible.
Nothing will end Israel!
Attacking Israel will end the temporary experiment in human governance abruptly.
>> “Surely, the Russkies aren’t so stupid as to think that they’ll get off scot-free for nuking Israel” <<
.
Russia is not the decider of its own destiny.
Russia and the northern islamic nations are under the control of two demonic “Princes” (Gog and Magog) who will be enticed to attack by Yehova.
My thought, too. So, Vlad doesn't care... he'll sell replacements. I wonder who's paying, though. Iran?
The acts of wars we don’t hear about. ThX!

Thanks for the typo correction.
Nicely said!
I wonder how long before Bibi is doing high fives, football spiking, acting a fool...oh wait...wrong country!

I could use a backup editor myself on occasions. :)
Word.Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon... "if God forbid they do reach Syria, we will know what to do... We have set red lines in regards to our own interests, and we keep them."
The Russians are trying to keep Israel from getting more directly involved, and (imo) the Israelis have been bluffing the Russians to keep them worried about when and whether the IDF will behead Assads regime. This is a situation where Russia holds almost no cards, and (from the terminology of The Big Bang Theory) really hold just a handful of Enchanted Bunny.
The Russians know (in case they didnt know before) that they cant trust Assad, cant trust Iran, and cant trust the Hizzies -- to say nothing of the many thousands of other combatants. Theyre not exactly loved in Lebanon, either. Israel is their only option, but unless they can extricate themselves from Assad (IOW, assassinate him as they did their own puppet ruler decades ago in Afghanistan, thus bringing down the entire country on their heads), they cant make deals with Israel.
Abbas is screwed too, and knows it.
Hamas is screwed too, and knows it.
Israel has also been keeping Zero on their side, and a bit off-balance.
The Hizzies are going to go the way of all flesh, probably sooner rather than later, and Israels success in denying the Hizzies those indirect weapons transfers from the NeoSoviet regime has bound the Hizzies even tighter in their role as proxies of Iran. Iran wanted their blunt instrument to have some stuff they otherwise couldnt get, and the Hizzies wanted it (for somewhat different reasons) and that attempt failed.
A year from now the Hizzies will be worn down from feeding themselves to the guns in Syria, and losing their last grip on power in Lebanon -- but only if Assad hangs on. Of course, if Assad goes, the Hizzies (plus the other thugs more recently arrived in Syria from Iran) will be left trying to maintain all-out war against al-Qaeda and everyone else capable of shooting at them, both in Syria and in Lebanon (and for that matter, Israel). The Hizzies cant leave Syria with their asses whipped, but theres no way to avoid that, short of a total victory by Assad -- and that outcome is wishful thinking.
Irans supply lines will be stretched, and Iraq will turn into an inferno. Wouldnt that be a shame?
This suggests that Israel wouldnt care if Assad is overthrown.
It also suggests that Israel wouldnt care if Assad isnt.
IOW, Israel has options, and they will keep them open until its time to exercise one or more of them.
The US has options so long as there are no US boots on the ground.
Everyone else fighting in and around Syria, or aiding and abetting any of the numberless factions in Syria, are screwed. The longer that nation-sized pressure cooker keeps exploding, the better the prospects are for both the US and Israel.
And to all who are screwed in the meantime -- screw you.
