23 Ways of Poking Fun at Libertarians
Townhall.com ^ | August 3, 2013 | Daniel J. Mitchell

The very first bit of anti-libertarian humor I ever posted was this clever video about the anarcho-capitalist paradise of Somalia.

I then shared two cartoons, one on libertarian ice fishing and the other showinglibertarian lifeguards.

That was followed by a very funny list of the 24 types of libertarians.

But I haven’t shared anything making fun of people like me since this “think I do” montage last year.

Thanks to Buzzfeed, however, we now have something new for our collection. They came up with “23 Libertarian Problems” and here are two of my favorites from the list.

Libertarians do not as a group ADVOCATE these issues. They allow them to be discussed and chosen OR NOT!!

Not true at all, it is the libertarian position on personal relationships and personal freedom.

Why do you think that they are libertarians instead of conservatives?

There is no Article 1 Sec 8 power that would give the FedGov that power.

Period.

Colonial America? Really? I go back to my other post. I see you long for the days of no due process where the local religious elders were judge, jury, and executioner.

“There are other things I would want to conserve”

So he is a conservative because he supports traditional marriage (as I said), and opposes abortion (as I said); and unlike libertarians (which as he says, he opposes).

Try ordering any controlled substance and get back to me. The power of the state to enact tariffs also permits the federal government to regulate importation. Right there in the constitution.

Like I said, I know your beliefs are too weak to withstand a little back and forth. And I understand why you don’t want people like me here. You much prefer people you can bully around and bark orders at. Again, sorry to screw that up for you. Have fun on the internet tonight. I have other things to do, but I’ll check back in on your poor reasoning skills on this thread tomorrow.

We know what libertarians care about by what they fight for, notice that they have never been much interested in tobacco or the 45 years of nationalizing the automobile.

Wait until NAMBLA fires up next.

Do you or do you not support a federal marriage bill changing the definition of marriage to force all states to recognize gay marriage?

No, like most libertarians, I believe this a states issue, as is abortion.

Yo’... ADD-boy...

You were talking about the Feds pushing gay marriage to all fifty States.

Focus.

As for the NSA, FAA, NASA, FDA, DEA, etc...

No... There’s no Art 1 Sec 8 powers for those either.

Unless you like the Democrats “pennumbras and emanations” for your unConstitutional expansion of government power. If that’s the case, you and McCAin should get together sometime and bugger each other.

When asked which political label fit him best, Sowell said libertarian, not conservative.

“I believe this a states issue, as is abortion.”

The fact that Kerry is issuing visas to America indicates that marriage is a federal issue and not a states issue.

States, last I checked, cannot issue visas. If gay marriage truly just were a states issue, then nobody would be able to get a visa claiming that he was in a gay marriage.

This is de-facto federal government recognition of gay marriage.

I told libertarians just like yourself that this was a reason why marriage is a federal issue. None of your compatriots addressed this point. Now, just a few months later, we see it happen.

Again, marriage has never been left up to the states. It’s always been a federal issue. Leaving it up to the states will not work, and the groundwork is going to be laid for the federal marriage bill to establish gay marriage in all 50 states.

So, we can count on your earnest opposition to such an attempt (which is coming, and coming soon?)

It should have been left a Religious issue. Once they got the State to sanction marriage, they ceded control over the definition.

That was stupid IMO.

My religion States that a marriage is between a man and a woman. No legislation passed will change my mind on that.

I don’t give two tin sh*ts what anyone else does.

Weird post and I never said anything about due process.
Your hatred for Christianity is overpowering your reading skills.

You said that conservatives want to “spy in your bedroom.” and want to return to 1870 America.

I responded with an observation.

What a crock, 1870 America and 1770 America would be lynching libertarians only post 1960s America embraces their social agenda, and nowhere man, “spy in your bedroom” is the most lefty language.

Is that really what you think of JR and freerepublic?

I do care about Chickensoup though. What does he believe? Does he support all these things?

I support limited government in the truest sense, free markets, the choice of associating with whomever we wish to associate with, and full and total defense armament. I guess you would call me a Maybury Libertarian, and I suspect that Rand is one also. Maybury’s books are great for a basic understanding of how we have, over the years, supported a strain of fascism and legal maneuvers to constrict liberty. Our current “electronic barbed wire” is not a new thing, years of preparation have led to the mindset that permits this.

He also said that ‘conservative means wanting to conserve stuff just for the sake of conserving it’, and said that he disagrees with libertarians on core principles.

Calling him a libertarian when he explicitly says that he disagrees with core principles is disingenuous.

Conservativism has never meant ‘to preserve something just because it’s there’. That’s a terrible definition of conservativism.

As is, Sowell supports traditional marriage and prolife issues. He does not support the libertarian view on both of these.

How do you deal with the analogy between your position on abortion and Dred Scott with slavery? Dred Scott permitted slavery in some states but not in others.

Should personhood be dependent upon which side of a state line you live on, or should it be dependent upon general principles (as is the rest of the 14th?)

You say that, but that isn't what you mean at all.

You don't want the Mosque to define marriage and for atheists to be forbidden marriage.
