“Nothing good happens at 3 am”

Rofl. I’m pretty sure it was about 3 am when the weird noises in “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” kicked in and brought the wrath of disoriented parents down upon the 4 of us. Still funny after all these years, worth the yelling, made us the stellar citizens we are today! :-/

Time was the good old movies and syndicated tv shows were on at 3am.

Then everything after midnight became an infomercial...

huh, I don’t recognize that (what is it?) — wasn’t into tv as much as music, I guess.

I’m listening to Inagadda — at the drum solo now!

Regional late night movie hosts. They weren’t syndicated like Elvira. Many towns had them once upon a time, not all dressed as monsters or strictly showed horror films.

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

I think you've proved I do, which is why I'm not a big fan of sleepovers. :-)

come to think of it, there were scary movies — “The Crawling Hand!!!!” and another with a giant praying mantis from the north pole, oh noes!!

Yeah, no good can come of stuff like that.

Sleepovers? Hmmm, let’s take a look at what is being taught at school, 40 hrs a week.

That sounds like a talk a father I know had with his daughter, and it worked for her, too — being honest and blunt and couched in concern and CONSISTENT love, support, and teaching about God. They lived in an inner-city neighborhood with rough influences, and she needed that tough honesty — came through it very well.

What’s being lost in the comments is the obvious fact that situations, children’s personalities, and family parenting styles are different. It’s not a one style fits all by any means. Some are horrified by the approach that worked for my friend, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Thanks for posting the article. It does seem to me that liberals, having insisted that there is no God, no morality, and that sex-education must be taught in elementary school, are now [rightly] concerned and are trying to back-pedal.

My wife and I have recently decided to ban sleepovers for any kids our family doesn’t know intimately. The reason? Bedbugs and roaches.

My middle son recently wanted to invite a playmate to sleep over at our house, but I got a report from my daughter that the kid’s house was literally crawling with roaches.

That was all I needed to hear. It got my wife and I to thinking about potential infestations coming in through the front door. We decided, better safe than sorry.

The photos were included to require more click throughs. Some webheads think it allows for better tracking

Well, the webheads aren't tracking me. If you use the Firefox browser, install one of their plug-ins called Ghostery. It blocks all tracking software from websites.

It can't stop the NSA from tracking you, but it's good for anything short of that.

It has been a real eye opener to deal with the fact that the average 12 year old has already seen more penises and perverted sex acts (including people having sex with dogs) than most women my age have.

At 12, I asked my daughter how many of her friends had lost their virginity. She didn't tell me their names, but did a count on her fingers, and told me that nine -- NINE -- had done so. She also told me how many were into cutting, and how many were into drugs.

You and your poor daughter unfortunately DO live in a warped, degenerate world. I feel sorry for both of you. The stuff you describe would be very uncommon at that age where I live. I do have multiple kids in middle school, have connections with law enforcement and social services, and am clued into a lot of things.

You can "forbid" your kid to watch it or other sites like it, but all you'll do is drive your kid underground and encourage secret keeping.

Not if you raise you kids right. Raise your kids right and THEY WILL TELL YOU to turn the tv channel because something is offensive. They will seek out good friends and avoid the bad influences. Yes, a few will turn to the dark side anyway, at least temporarily, but you'll have a much better chance to get them back.

Exactly. You just described my daughter.

Well, that’s good but you still seem to live in a different world than we do.

As parents we are supposed to protect our children. I don’t think it is their job to speak up in a group of friend that they should not be watching a program or engaging in an inappropriate activity at 1 am. As a parent I saw very little need for sleepovers. Have fun before 9/10 pm and come home a sleep in your own bed.

Generally, nothing constructive happens with a group of adolescents at 3 a.m.,” says Utay.)

Well, that depends upon who they are. When we were cute little teens, we read ghost stories out loud. dramatizing every syllable. Scared ourselves, we did. And we laughed like crazy about it. Big fun and memorable.

BTW, you should all know that “Twisted Tea” is a liquor. Their TV ads apparently never mention this at all. False advertising if you ask me.
