HOUSE GOP LEADER: DEFUNDING OBAMACARE 'NOT REALISTIC'
Breitbart ^ | Aug 24, 2013 | By Mike Flynn

Posted on 08/24/2013 10:04:25 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, number 4 in House GOP Leadership, said the effort by conservatives to defund ObamaCare is "not realistic." She advocated a piece-meal approach to repeal, delay or defund individual provisions of the sweeping health care overhaul. The debate will likely dominate discussions within the Republican caucus when Congress returns next month.

“To get the entire bill repealed, or defunded, is probably not realistic,” McMorris Rodgers said. “But I do think there are provisions in the law that we can get delayed, or provisions in the law we can get defunded.”

The government's spending authority expires on September 30th. To avoid a government shutdown, Congress must pass a continuing resolution authorizing continued spending. Many conservatives, led by Sens. Mike Lee and Ted Cruz, want Republicans to strip spending for ObamaCare out of this continuing resolution.

Eighty House Republicans sent a letter to House Speaker Boehner on Thursday endorsing this plan. More moderate Republicans, however, are worried that such a move would garner a veto of the continuing resolution from Obama and lead to a government shutdown. Party leaders are concerned that they would be blamed for any shutdown.

GOP Leaders seem to be galvanizing around a plan to delay by a year the implementation of ObamaCare. “The delays the administration has been forced to implement in the healthcare law have given us a golden opportunity to talk about fairness," Boehner said Thursday, according to The Hill. "‘If big business gets relief from the president's healthcare law, families and small businesses should, too.’ This message strikes a chord with Americans. When people hear it, it resonates.”

Time for the Congress to take back control of the nation from the MSM. By saying that they would be "Blamed for government shutdown" What they are effecively saying is that the MSM controls national policy, not the Congress.

That's it. Or another way of saying it is the MSM is the official Goebbels arm of the government and the Rs are chickens*** cowards or on board with the whole shebang.

We have to work for de-funding to the bitter end, with or without Quisling Boehner.

Otherwise, we have to follow Mark Levin's long-term plan to amend the Constitution. The Republicans, except for a handful of patriots, have sold us out.

Thanks for the link.

It's a little hard to determine how credible the source is, given that they list Limbaugh as a CFR member...but he's not on the current roster.

I'm curious. You use the term "loyal opposition" as if it might be a pejorative. Is that how you mean it?

“UNLESS... we call God into our pictures again. Beginning with us. And this being a God not merely of “no” but also of “YES.”

I agree that the underlying problem is not political but moral and spiritual. The challenge is really upon us to change ourselves and our relationship with the state. Render unto caesar and all. TPTB only have power to the extent we give it to them.

Yes.

His operation chaos got us Obama on the dim ticket in ‘08.

He hasn’t really DONE anything for the conservative movement except serve as a pressure relief valve.

Believe me when I tell you that I'm really, REALLY restraining myself here today. If I posted what I actually thought, no doubt the NSA, DHS, FBI, CIA and damn' near every other federal agency sniffing traffic off of FR would be kicking my door down. (They just might for the hell of it for my even suggesting what I was thinking..)

“Isn’t she exempt from obamadeathcare?”

Yes she is. She conducted a townhall in Colville, WA yesterday and this was pointed out to her. A red faced Rogers said it wasn’t right that congress was exempt but she hasn’t turned the exception down being concerned about her family and all. She should be ashamed but shame is something that’s removed when one goes to DC.

Thats such a harsh way to put it. How about we use “Lesser evil” instead. That way after they fully fund it, then pass Amnesty, all those staunch conservatives can have something to sooth their conscience at the polls when they vote a straight GOP ticket in 2014 and again in 2016..

Just like last time.

This is a good thread, because we need to prop up the Republicans and make them realize that they need to fear us as much as the MSM.

It is the MSM they fear, and with reason. Look at what happens to those who dare to be effective against what the MSM wants. Newt Gingrich. Tom Delay. Sarah Palin.

The MSM/Democrat machine has shown that it can and will destroy Republicans who dare to be effecive nationally.

We have to show them that they must fear us as well, or even more so.

We all need to do our part to grow the new media to offer counter power to the MSM.

Jim, you have and are doing more than your share. We all need to follow your example, and find how we can be effective.

I’m not saying I have proof about Rush but I recall back in ‘96 it was widely rumored among Patriot type and conspiracy crowds that Rush had been invited into the establishment CFR circle and was seen at their gatherings. That period corresponded with his total dominance of the talk radio circuit and Rush’s extreme 10 point kook test and extreme rants on Buchanan and Alan Keyes. I remember myself while in college listening to Rush at night and being extremely befuddled at his support for NAU/globalism and free trade and his visceral hatred of Buchanan and Keyes for their specific opposition to those things. I’ve never heard Rush be as animated and almost off his rocker over anything as he would get over these issues back then. I was convinced he was the controlled opposition and given the job of controlling the respectable perimeters of conservative discussion back then. I still think this is probably the case. He has done his job well and now he can say what he wants as the jig is about up.

Just saw her at a townhall meeting yesterday, said the exact opposite. Also said she was against amnesty, but when asked if she would give her word to oppose it, her reply was, “I will not make that promise.

"Patriot-types and conspiracy crowds"...are not exactly reliable sources.

Rush’s extreme 10 point kook test and extreme rants on Buchanan and Alan Keyes.

I suspect you won't agree, but the "kook test" was fully appropriate for its time. And the likes of Buchanan and Keyes (plus Perot, etc.) weren't helping. At the time, Buchanan was practicing extreme commercialism -- he was in the business of selling books...and wrote what he knew his audience would buy. Keyes is a good man...and a rotten candidate. While Perot really was a "kook" -- whose sole interest was a personal mission to defeat George H.W. Bush.

I was convinced he was the controlled opposition and given the job of controlling the respectable perimeters of conservative discussion back then. I still think this is probably the case.

You haven't been listening lately, then, have you? He is tearing the Republican Party a new one.

And "loyal opposition" means a.) in opposition to the regime, but b.) loyal to the country.

[Limbaugh's] operation chaos got us Obama on the dim ticket in ‘08.

How can you say that -- when it was designed to help Hillary?

Indeed, a persuasive case can be made that Hillary won several close primaries because of Operation Chaos.
