Smarts dont always equate to common sense. In the case of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), there is an inverse relationship between the two. Im told by smart lawyers that he has a sharp legal mind, can think on his feet and has remarkable recall for facts, cases and even page numbers of the briefs. But his political judgment has become distorted by ambition.
Interestingly, he no longer is touting the line that Republicans unwilling to join the suicide squad own Obamacare. Perhaps someone told him that among the obnoxious and untrue things he has said, this ranks at the top and will put him crosswise with a majority of those GOP senatorial candidates running in 2014.
A Cruz presidential run into 2016 would be interesting, if not downright amusing. An early rebuke in his young career might be a beneficial dose of cold water or devastating to a pol who, even among senators, is excessively convinced of his own exceptionalism.
Cruz is not the guy to build the party or a governing majority (which requires moderate Republicans). But he is just the person to build up Ted Cruz. In fact, he is masterful.

Yes, I understand the issue some may have with that, but you’ve been calling him ‘naturalized’, which expressly means that he wasn’t a citizen at birth—and that is exactly what your quoted statute says he was.
Such an excellent post by you, dearest xzins. I have to laugh and gag at these birther posters when it comes to Ted Cruz, given that I have 3 grandchildren, born to my American daughter and her Caymanian husband on Grand Cayman Island, and all three are “natural born American citizens,” and also Caymanian citizens.
All three could be eligible for POTUS but each would have to fist renounce their Caymanian citizenship, just like Ted Cruz and his Canadian citizenship.
Parts of Canada and the Cayman’s are much the same.
Thank you for your kind words, Onyx.
Ted Cruz has so many credentials that Republicans have been clamoring for, and his Hispanic heritage should clinch the deal for them, but they don’t even hide that they’re keeping him at arm’s length.
Absolutely natural born citizens in any fair reading of both current law and early US law.
Maybe we’ll have a President Cayman Onyx some day. :>)
You're so right and we're going to try our level best to get him nominated!
God bless you.
As for the other kind remark from you: Hahahahaha.
Well said sir. BUMP to your entire post.
Watching these people who are supposedly "conservative" makes me want to bang my head on my monitor. As you say, here is someone who should admire Cruz for his gifts and accomplishments, yet she chooses to trash him and demand a moderate.
Likewise, the pharisee wing of the GOP, at this moment just the birthers, are finding some niggling reasons to take him down. Trust me, there will be other "purist factions" that will be just as niggling and stupid when they should be pitching in and pushing for someone like him to ascend as a leader of the conservative movement. (Hint: RPaulists, etc.)
No one said the fight would be easy.............
I had not heard Jim had said that. Awesome!
Do I make up great slogans or what?
:-)
#CruzToVictory! (from his campaign ... hard to beat)
Maybe we can replace the stars with 50 maple Leafs?
There must be a way to compromise. Maybe a gang of Eight could lead the way?
Cruz Missile.
Gotta say my vote is that #CruzMissle is the best.
I like ‘em all!
She can't win......:-)
Why would they have to renounce there Cayman citizenship? Nothing in the constitution requires it.
Can you tell me what law requires they renounce their birth right to become president?
More proof that Jennifer Rubin is NO conservative.....
