The wife of George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch captain acquitted in the Feb. 2012 shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, pleaded guilty this morning to a misdemeanor charge of perjury in a plea deal, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

Shellie Zimmerman was sentenced to serve one year of probation under the deal, designed to avoid a felony conviction, reports the paper.

Shellie Zimmerman was accused of lying during one of her husband's bond hearings last year. She allegedly told a judge that the couple had no money, when they reportedly had received more than $130,000 in donations from internet donors who wanted to aid in her husband's defense.

The couple reportedly talked about the donations in recorded phone calls at the Seminole County jail, just days before the bond hearing during which she was accused of lying....

Why would she plead guilty?

The corrupt judicial system blackmails you into pleading to a lesser charge to avoid the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a trial will cost you.

They do it all the time.

He was. He also went through months of gut-wrenching stress and demonization as his image was broadcast on national TV. Also, win or lose she’d be on the hook for 5-6 figures in legal fees, and there would be no guarantee that she’d win. I’m not saying it’s just, but I understand why she’d cop a plea.

He was, that’s why she was prosecuted. It was pure petulant vindictive spite on the part of the prosecutor. She never perjured herself but I don’t blame her for copping a plea.

Of course she could be pardoned by the governor.

I don’t know if as a misdemeanor this affects her second amendment rights, or if there is an agreement that she will not live in a home ‘with a gun’ but that can be put into plea bargains on the second sheet.

Janet Reno was famous for punishing non-criminals with process, and that example appears to be what is happening here.

Obozo is behind this you can be sure. When she said no money, she meant no money of their own. Everybody knows that.

I wish I could find the old Bloom County cartoon panel, with Opus and Binkley gloating over a gossip column saying “WE HAVE A SCANDAL!”
Because that is EXACTLY what the Left will do with this.

Here's one:

Indeed. The way they are covering EVERYTHING about the Zimmermans, I soon expect a breaking news item of him having a bowel movement.

The media continues to plumb new depths.

Dude: “bowel movement” and “plumb new depths”.

I’m only angry that I DIDN’T THINK OF IT FIRST....

I don’t think a non-violent misdemeanor affects her 2A rights at all. Another story says she can continue pursuing her nursing career since she’s still not a convicted felon.
