Michigan State University (MSU) officials will investigate anti-Republican comments award-winning professor William Penn was secretly recorded making to his literature class on Thursday, a school spokesman told Campus Reform Tuesday evening. At MSU it is important the classroom environment is conducive to a free exchange of ideas and is respectful of the opinions of others, Kent Cassella,an MSU spokesman wrote. MSU is thankful weve been made aware of the situation, he said, referring the secret video recording which was viewed by hundreds of individuals on Tuesday. We will be looking into it, he added.

Good grief! Is that really the prof in question? Looks just like I imagined he would. I can almost smell his greasy hair. Yuck!
At MSU, and most other universities, there is a “free exchange of ideas” as long as they agree with the professor’s.
We had 2 good ones last time, one being Doc' Steele and I don't think he got beat that bad, but he didn't win.
These seats are a must, forget about the Boneheads and BellaPelosi's that fackata carnival will collapse, setting the tone in a school is more important culturally...
I guess this retard has the right to his opinion but what does his vitriolic rants have to do with creative writing?
W.C's quite a character from the Way-Back Machine alright.
Like Churchill, this new William Penn joker is also supposedly connected to an American Indian past--shooting arrows into the nasty palefaces on every side.
"William S. Penn (born 1949) is a mixed-race Nez Perce author and English professor at Michigan State. His work explores the issues his father faced coming to terms with his Indian heritage. His work may be classified as magical realism.--Wiki
Here's another one of Penn's students voicing an opinion about the tenured professor's classroom performance.
"Penn is easily the worst professor I've ever had, Creative Writing or otherwise. Any of the people who gave him anything over a 2.5 on this site were clearly part of his suck-up posse. Penn is racist, sexist, ignorant, and downright offensive. Though he can write--from the one story of his I've seen--he is clearly self-obsessed and spends every single lecture he can verbally masturbating. Rather than tearing down students' work in order to encourage them to do better like Diane Wakoski does, Penn merely insults his students' writing like a bully on a playground. He does it to impress his posse and feel superior. I can't believe I not only paid for the class, but also for the piece of **** course pack we used literally twice. I don't know how this man got tenure. Someone should do something about this asap."
All we need is for the same people who vote for the republican presidential or senate candidate to vote in the state level education and college administration races. If we do that we can win every one of those seats by wide margins.
In Michigan straight ticket voting skips those races, so vote straight ticket if you like but then vote in those races.
Oh, that's going to leave a mark.

“Magical Realism”? Seriously, who makes this crap up?
Hey, give the man a break!
He is a professor of Creative Writing, right?
He is just being “creative” in writing about US history. After all, he does not want to be guilty of plagiarism by teaching/writing about actual history, right?

Perhaps he will do the world a favor and title his next literary work, “ I Will Write No More, Forever”
MSU is engaged in fraud, deceipt, slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress, violation of 42 USC Section 1983.
As an alumni of MSU, I have demanded this fool be fired immediately.
I did. This has been posted several times.
Ideology posing as education.
Professors who go on rants like this are abject cowards. Students just want to pass the class and not one in their right mind will raise objections at the time. What a waste of tuition.
"Good teacher......he really seems to care.....about what I have no idea."
He doesn’t have to go that far. How about Detroit or Chicago? I’m sure they will welcome him with all the weapons at their disposal.

Melanie Foster and Jeff Sakwa, candidates for Michigan State University Board of Trustees, released the following joint statement today:
News broke this morning of a Michigan State University professor who went off on a political rant during his first day of class. The full video, which can be found online by clicking here, shows Professor William Penn telling students "If you go to the Republican convention in Florida, you see all of the old Republicans with the dead skin cells washing off them." He went on to say, "They're cheap. They don't want to pay taxes because they have already raped this country and gotten everything out of it they possibly could." Professor Penn further stated that Republicans are, "a bunch of dead white people, or dying white people."
While Professor Penn is certainly entitled to his personal opinions, the classroom is not the place for him to be airing his political views. The students at MSU need to be focused on preparing themselves for their future professions, not on the political opinions of their professors.
It is imperative that the Board of Trustees at MSU take this matter seriously. We call for Michigan State University to complete a full and fair investigation into this matter to ensure that the classroom does not become a platform for political propaganda. We will be watching what happens with this incident to ensure that the University takes the appropriate actions.
It is incidents like this, among many others, that have inspired both of us to run once again for the Michigan State University Board of Trustees. We need to bring a common sense, conservative voice to this overwhelmingly liberal board to ensure that all points of view are represented.

Yes, I know they think that. I’ve heard if it.
Magical realism is a style of fiction most typified by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Maybe you knew that. I don’t mean to condescend. Needless to say, not everyone can pull it off and even when they do, it’s not every reader’s cup if tea. I haven’t read any of Penn’s writing. But not every minimalist is Hemingway or Raymond Carver. And so on.
Sounds like this guy might be like Ward Churchill in more ways than one. Fake Indian Alert! I’m not accusing him of being a fake, but Pretend Indians are practically a cottage industry.
Thanks. I didn’t know that. This is why I hang out on Free Republic. I learn something new all the time.
