House GOP Leaders Furious With Tea Party Senators’ Hard Line On Obamacare
TPM (excerpt click to read) ^ | Sept 13, 2013 | By SAHIL KAPUR

House Republican leadership is furious with ultraconservative Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) whom they see as hobbling their efforts to secure an achievable spending victory by insisting on threatening a government shutdown over the unachievable goal of defunding Obamacare.

House GOP leaders want to pass a continuing resolution that jams Senate Democrats with lower spending levels while forcing a vote — without the risk of a shutdown — on Obamacare. But Lee and Cruz are giving them heartburn by screaming that this proposal amounts to surrender on Obamacare.

“If House Republicans go along with this strategy, they will be complicit in the disaster that is Obamacare,” said Cruz, dismissing the plan as “procedural chicanery.” Lee spoke out against it earlier this week, and is now supporting an alternate GOP measure backed by 43 Republicans which threatens a shutdown over Obamacare.

The two senators have significant influence among conservative House Republicans and activists who want to destroy Obamacare at all costs. So their opposition to Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) plan quickly contributed to the headache for House leaders, who were foced to postpone consideration of the bill until next week. It remains unclear if they’ll be able to get the votes.

House Republican leaders are tired of being painted as weak on Obamacare while Cruz and Lee are seen as grassroots heroes without having to take risks or make unpopular moves. The Boehner stopgap bill would let these senators filibuster if Democrats try to fund Obamacare, House aides point out, if they have the courage to.

“Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have been demanding a fight to defund Obamacare. The House offers to give them one and they say, no, no, you guys fight it,” said a House GOP aide, venting about colleagues on condition of anonymity. “We have been. For three years.”

And that needs to be shouted from the housetops.

Every time a Republican steps in front of a microphone or a camera they need to pound this hard.

“Ultra-conservative” - I wish I could hear the term “Hard-Left” only one tenth as much.

House Republican “leaders” are an absolute joke. Speaker John “Bonehead” Boehner, Majority leader Eric “Weasel” Cantor, and Majority Whip Kevin “Backstabber” McCarthy are the problem with the GOPee. They are spineless, gutless, craven panderers, and always ready to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Your days are numbered, boys. It's time to become unemployed.

Yes, “leaders”? LOL. It must be intoxicating to be a politician. Even to be one of their flunkies. It has to be, the nonsense that they spew !

I hope and pray the Tea Party Senators stick to their guns (pardon the pun) and keep hammering away of killing odumbocare. Start by defunding it and then killing it all together. Odumbocare is bad for America.

What a bit of propaganda! They aren't "ultraconservative". They are conservative.

The House leadership, rinos all, pretend to be conservative but aren't at all. They vote for unending spending, adventurous war, homosexual agenda, open borders.

When confronted with real conservatives, they have to play politics to explain their own deceit.

.... while forcing a vote — without the risk of a shutdown — on Obamacare.

ARRRGGGGHH!. Proof positive they want the disaster to go forward. Even a 6-year old is smart enough to understand that any shutdown would be 100% at Zero's Muslim hands.

the Dems will shut down the gov to keep Obamacare

They probably won't. Their constituents are empowered after stopping the vote on Obama's recreational war-mongering. Their constituents are mostly opposed to Obamacare the more they learn about it. The dems to save their arses next election will vote on the bill without Obamacare funding. Then Obama would have to veto the bill because it doesn't fund Obamacare.

It's a win for the 'pubs who really want to get rid of Obamacare, and not just have votes saying it's not a nice law.

Why hasn't someone ousted Boehner yet?

“House Republican leadership is furious with ultraconservative Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX)”

Senators Lee and Cruz are Conservative. They are being labeled “ultraconservative” by those who are no longer if ever Conservative because they are trying to hold on to the brand “Conservative” that they are not and don’t deserve to be called.

The House GOP voted Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy to be their "leaders". The leaders lead no one. If the GOP House members want to be taken seriously they have to vote out their "leaders" and vote in leaders.

Anything else is just blather, not worth the time of a welfare recipient.
