Prayer request for my Dad
9/24/13 | Myself

Posted on 09/24/2013 3:58:05 AM PDT by Kaosinla

I apologize if I'm not posting this correctly, but I kindly request any prayers that you might offer for my Dad. About six weeks ago, my Dad went to the Cardiologist (after months of feeling increasingly sluggish). It turned that a previous lingering cold gave him a heart infection that (although gone at the time) reduced his heart function dramatically. ..to about 15%. They gave him a vest that acted as a defib and compression to strengthen the heart. He was feeling much better but last night he exhibited heart attack symptoms and was rushed via ambulance to the hospital. All of his tests came back normal, but right before he was going to transferred for observation he went into cardiac arrest and lost consciousness. He was shocked eight time before coming back to us. He awoke and didn't remember anything and they gave him sleeping meds and oitment for the burns...his temp was hypothermic and blood pressure way down. Right now, it just waiting and the docs really can't make any prognosis. I live away from all of my family and waiting just for an update is excruciating. Needless to say there has been no sleep tonight and I got the first flight out at noon.

Sorry for the long story, but you folks are a home away from home and it's just the wife and I here.

Thank You!

I had something similar in July, 2000.

A virus of some kind, and at some point, infected my heart.
I felt weak, had trouble breathing, and had no energy. Plus, fluid was building up in my lungs.

On my birthday, after a week or two or seeing my go downhill, my sister pleaded with me to go to the emergency room. I did, and I was told I had “dilated cardiomyopathy. I spent three days in intensive care. What I had was similar to what Randy Travis suffered from recently. Doctors don’t know why I came down with it.

At the time, I didn’t have a doctor, so the woman on call in the hospital at that point in time became my physician.
She recommended COQ-10, which can be purchased over the counter in Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, or any pharmacy.

A normal ejection fraction is 55% to 73%....mine was 21%.
One year later, my ejection fraction was 50%, and my doctor called me all excited and said, “You’re cured!”
A year later my ejection fraction was 60%.

I didn’t have the other symptoms your Dad has, but CO-Q10 has a reputation for being good for the heart. Many cardiologists will ignore it, however, because they have a big pharma mindset and there’s no money for them in COQ-10.

Prayers being offered up for a speedy recovery for your Dad.

“PastorBrooks! Please reply back and let us know how you are! That is scary and we can’t help you from here. Is someone there with you??”

No, I’m alone. My mother went to be with the Lord three weeks ago. They think my heart acting up is stress because of the loss. But I am having some pretty classic heart symptoms.

july4thfreedomfoundation: “She recommended COQ-10, which can be purchased over the counter in Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, or any pharmacy.”

I second that. Co-enzyme Q-10 will help your Dad. It really helps heart problems. I’ve heard it is given by prescription in Japan. Also look into L-Carnitine and Flax seed oil.

Thank you all for the prayers and kind words.

I just spoke to my sister. My Dad is being life-flighted to Allegheny General (great hospital in Pittsburgh). He is suffering from congestive heart failure and they need to relieve the water retention immediately.

I don’t know if I will have an update before my flight, but will let you all know as soon as I can.

Thank you all so very much!

“I’m going to join in the prayers. The timing on this for me is really personal.I just got back from the ER myself! My blood pressure is all over the place, up to 175/110 pulse 114. It can jump 20 points just by sitting up or lying down. My pulse is also all over the place, from 68 all the way to 117. My left arm is hurting and the two small left-hand fingers are hurting. My chest feels fluttery. I called my aunt who is a nurse and told her my symptoms. She told me to go to the ER immediately.I went to the hospital at 1am last night. “They took my blood pressure. They saw my pulse racing. I told them that both my parents and all of my grandparents had heart problems. They hooked up a bunch of wires on my chest. They said they didn’t see any wrong and sent me home.(They said it must be stress.)So I’m sitting here with my heart going monkey-crazy, my left arm feeling tired, my pinkie finger and the next one painful (hard to type this), and wondering what to do.And I get on FR, see this request for prayer, click on it, and here is a man whose tests came back normal then he had a heart attack. D’oh!So I am going to pray for your Dad, that they will find out what is going on!Prayers up!”

I definitely can sympathize with you. I can only speak from my experience and, obviously, am not a Dr. However, your circumstances sound very similar to mine. Out of blue about 8 yrs ago, I started having an elevated heart rate a just felt not right (was exhibiting heart attack symptoms). Went to Er and was told was prob. Reflux. I felt this way for 6 mos. before seeking a second opinion. I was sent to a Cardiologist/Electrophysiologist who put me on a king of hearts monitor. Whenever I felt strange I would press record and write down what I was doing and feeling. Finally, I caught a similar event to my er visit ( pulse went from 70 to 255) in 3 seconds. I was the diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia...been controlled with abeta blocker ever since. Even now when I just get up my pulse will jump 30-40. The key is catching the event as it happens, otherwise the heart seems normal (it’s a specific wave that is a ttelltale marker). You can look this up. Don’t let someone tell you everything is good when you know you’re feeling something...the worst you can be is wrong.

But there does seem to be something wrong. You know your own body, PastorBooks, and it’s telling you something. Perhaps, you should return. What does your aunt, the nurse, say about what you were told?

Oh, wow. Your experience is quite close to mine. Interestingly, there is something that is rare called “sick sinus syndrome.” Only 3 out of 10,000 have it, and it runs in my family.

Going to have to look into that, for sure. THANK YOU for the heads-up!

“Praying that all is well with you, PastorBooks!”

Thank you! I am feeling better this morning. Not so “fluttery.”

I can sympathize with Kaosinla and his Dad. I got shook up last night. When I was getting ready to leave for the ER there was this feeling in my chest... almost a sense of “Heart, are you getting ready to stop on me?” It was an unnerving sensation.

You hear of people saying they had a sense of “impending doom” before having a heart attack. I didn’t have the sense of “doom” — I know Jesus and know where I’d go — but the thought occurred if I was getting ready to see Heaven. It was this feeling like my heart could seize up at any second. It is hard to describe.

It is 11:20 am here and I never went to bed after getting home from the hospital last night. I have been waking up with pain the last 4-5 nights. To be honest, I’m a little scared to go to sleep.

“Perhaps, you should return.”

You may be right. I might need to get a second opinion... at a much better hospital. I am going to talk with my aunt later today.
