It’s time for stocktaking by GOP leaders
Washington Post ^ | October 12, 2013 | by Dan Balz

Sometimes polls state the obvious. Sometimes they surprise. The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal and Gallup surveys, which landed late last week during the government shutdown, did both.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff and Democratic pollsters Peter Hart and Fred Yang conducted the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. All are longtime practitioners, but even they seemed startled by the findings. McInturff wrote in an analysis, “Overall, this is among the handful of surveys that stand out in my career as being significant and consequential.” Hart called the findings “jaw-dropping.”

One thing I’ll give the dems credit for is they don’t seem to be cowed by polls like Republicans are.

In 2009 and early 2010 every poll showed that Obamacare was unpopular. Every poll showed that passing it was going to hurt the dems big time and likely cost them the House. A number of polls showed it would cause a historic defeat.

But they didn’t care. They weren’t affected. Obamacare was that important to them. If it cost them 65 House seats and 6 Senate seats(even if cost them the whole Senate including the majority leader). They were going to pass it. And they did.

I wish Republicans showed that type of backbone sometime

To tell the truth, FR is not like America as a whole.

America as a whole, does want insurance reform. Because frankly, American jobs are being sent to China.

By BOTH PARTIES.

There is ZERO insurance passed by the House.

I understand why FR is all in favor of this, but America is not so uniform.

We need a competing insurance bill out of the House.

Right now.

And we need to start bringing back American jobs, right now.

How about spending less time sending stories from the Washington Post to FR?

Editorializing by manufactured polls is not news, it’s partisan propaganda.

Hart called the findings “jaw-dropping.”

What should be "jaw-dropping" is that we don't give a crap about your polls.

Exactly, and this is the question that I keep wanting the “let them own it crowd” to answer:

Why were they willing to lose the house? Why did the loss of the Kennedy seat not derail them? Why don’t they simply delay ObamaCare’s implementation, to avoid (what our strategists insist is) the debilitating political damage of the current debacle?

What do they know that we don’t? They know that ObamaCare will survive whatever political hits they take, and the resultant long-term leverage is well worth any short term hit.

Their strategists: do anything to implement ObamaCare as quickly as possible, and own it.

Our strategists: implement ObamaCare as quickly as possible, and let them own it. (that will show them!)

And we wonder why we lose.

Oh sure.

How do you bring back jobs? Pack them in a box and mail them via UPS?

Because no one is going to pay people in this nation 30 dollars an hour + benefits, vacation time and perks and stay in business when their products will cost too much to sell to anyone.

And reform in insurance? How do you get around laws of supply and demand? How do you tell these companies to just go bankrupt just to make people feel good? Like it or not these companies CANNOT pay everyone’s bills on-demand, that is why they have the rules they have. If they had no rules they would be out of money in a month because people wont value the product enough to not bleed it dry. Every sniffle that someone goes to the hospital for, and 40 year smoker will add billions to the cost of doing business alone, especially when people expect to do so with not a dollar added to their premiums because it’s somehow “not fair”.

Just saying.

We have exported American jobs now to the point, that China according to some estimates exports more than America.

And Chinese exports are GROWING.

We need to change our plan.

We need to bring back American jobs. And we need to protect American jobs.

If that means we need to tax imports, then tax imports.

More goofy advice for the GOP from a commie lib toad who thinks that what the low to no information types tell the pollsters is important.

After a century of obvious, abject failure on the part of the social engineering progressives, the idea that THIS TIME, the people will be so angered by the failure of Obamacare that they will demand its repeal (AND that such can actually be achieved) IS COMPLETE LUNACY.

If it is allowed to be enacted, the only future debate will be about how much we have to spend (and how much the real middle-class has to pay) to make it work.

The tea party’s positive rating was 21 percent

And that's the people who will turn out to vote in GOP races next year. GOP still can't get that through their heads.

And the sad part: what you correctly describe as “COMPLETE LUNACY” is the exact strategy that virtually all of the Republican consultants, mouthpieces, and power brokers believe we should make.
