BREAKING: House Deal Falls Apart As Conservatives Balk, White House Threatens Veto
Townhall ^ | Oct. 15, 2013 | Guy Benson

----"Plan B" and fiscal cliff vote, redux. Having hammered out a deal to shoot back to the Senate tonight -- with most Republicans reportedly on board -- House GOP leadership has been forced to delay or cancel those votes after support among conservatives collapsed in the early evening hours. The rules committee meeting, which would have formally drawn up the bill and advanced it to the full house, has been postponed indefinitely. The reason is simple. They don't have the votes:

What happened? The counter-offer's broad outline, which I've been following all day, seemed to be on track. Then the medical device tax delay was stripped out, and the "full Vitter Amendment" (no special treatment under Obamacare for Congress, staffers, and White House officials) was inserted in -- both at the behest of the Tea Party faction. You read that right: The House's most ardent conservatives decided they were opposed to stalling or repealing the tax as part of this deal, for tactical reasons. I theoretically sympathize with those reasons. The delay would look like another favor to big business rather than the little guy (which works against the GOP's "fairness" messaging on the mandate tax), it would risk disengaging the medical device industry as a zealous repeal coalition partner, and it would take the issue off the table as a Democrat-dividing maneuver for future negotiations. All that said, since when are conservatives against getting rid of job-killing, innovation-impeding tax increases? A wrong-headed choice, in my estimation. But that's moot now anyway. In spite of those accommodations from leadership and a relatively unified spirit coming out of this morning's meeting, enough members apparently decided that the deal wasn't good enough to merit their support. It seems likely that late-breaking opposition from Heritage Action and FreedomWorks contributed to the whip-count...

I don’t doubt it - he’s a real piece of work. Does rove stalk conservatives and lambaste them?

(I know nothing about twitter or how he’s engaging people, sorry).

“Harry Reid is a total embarrassment to the Country..hope his wife calls him to return home to take care of her or their cat or what ever..but we need to get rid of most of the Senate..”

I thought he announced he’s retiring. please don’t tell me I dreamed that.

“There will be NO default on government debt backed by interest bearing instruments. There is more than enough tax revenue to cover those payments. The only way a default could happen on those debt payments is if the Treasury IGNORED/REFUSED to pay them. Now on obligations/promises made by the government not backed by any of those previously mentioned ‘instruments’ there can’t be any ‘default’ in the financial sense, only broken promises. Promises/obligations which mathematically were/are impossible to keep over time anyway. Better to face now the reality and the economic pain that must come rather than MUCH greater pain later.”

lol....you either went to private schools or went to the public schools when they actually taught something other than diversity and homosexuality. and your parents must have told the school nurse to go to hell when she said your a little hyper and I want to put him on Ritalin.

If Boehner allows the Senate bill to pass with Rats and RINOs then he's done.

Let's say both Reid and McConnell are out. Then who will step up and take their place? Probably someone much worse.

Say, Schumer at the Rats side, and McCain on the GOP sellout side. I remembered when Dashole was voted out and thinking there was no way they could find someone worse then him to be the majority speaker for the Rats. I was wrong........

Simple short term solution:

The House should pass a clean CR and debt ceiling increase with 2 exceptions:
- Obamacare is the law of the land for ALL....including Obama and Congress....no Executive orders for ANYONE allowed. It’s the law. Make them take a vote in full sunlight.
- And the extension is only for 90 days....shed light on their lie to want to negotiate. Pass a budget Congress.

If I were Boehner, I would race to the microphones and say the Republican House has passed another resolution to solve the immediate crisis and give Obama everything he wants....only he and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have to agree to being participants in Obamacare. The 90 day extension is just that...a short reprieve; to allow Democrats to put their money where their mouth is regarding spending limit negotiations.
