Affordable Care Act driving some premiums up
ABC-7 San Francisco ^ | October 15, 2013 | By Michael Finney

SAN FRANCISCO - One reason the Republicans are so adamantly against Obamacare, is that it's driving individual insurance premiums up. And with the law now kicking in, the bills are coming due.

In looking into this, we talked to health insurance companies, and representatives of Covered California, agency implementing the Affordable Care Act in California. What they told us may be a bitter pill to swallow, for those who will pay more.

Cynthia Jaynes thought her family would benefit from the Affordable Care Act.

The author of several young adult books says her family will see a minimum 11 percent increase in her premiums with Blue Shield but that's not what bothers her the most.

"We would have to pay, out of pocket, for all of our prescriptions until we reached that $9,000 family deductible," said Jaynes.

Thanks Oldeconomybuyer. Surprisingly accurate:

Anyone who found an increase in their premiums “unexpected”, I recommend that they join Free Republic.

I recommend they stick a gun in their mouth and put the rest of us out of our misery.

Joining FR isn't going to help, because these morons are ineducable. One of them actually says for all it's flaws, 0bamacare is a good first start. In other words, its real problem is that it doesn't confiscate enough, does redistribute enough, doesn't control enough, isn't big government enough.

These folks have been piling failure on top of failure since March 4, 1933. They aren't going to learn at FR or anywhere else.

Liberals thought Obama would figure a way to only stick it to Republicans on costs for ObamaCare... That’s what’s funny.

Their reactions will be:

1. Blame Bush
2. Praise Obama for his “boldness.”

If by "surprisingly accurate," you mean "typically clueless." Re-read that last line again:

What they told us may be a bitter pill to swallow, for those who will pay more.

EVERYONE is going to pay more. The wage suppression, demands for increased productivity, cutbacks to other benefits, layoffs and reduction in hours required for employers to meet the premium increases are just the start.

People who've paid 3% of their income to Medicare have just watched the government siphon $750 BILLION from their paychecks (retroactively contributed over decades) to pay for 30 million uninsured deadbeats, crack whores, and meth heads, many of whom will not even sign up until they arrive with some substance related health catastrophe at the emergency room.

Board certification of Third World "doctors," less money for research, more cost shifting, and overall reduced quality will follow quickly after, as will a deteriorating dollar since the true cost has never been accurately scored by CBO. Inflation is a tax on EVERYONE, and hurts those least able to absorb it the most; exactly those people 0bamacare was supposed to be helping.

Someone thinks this is a good first start??? Unbelievable!

Some people just don’t have brains that can function properly.

"Affordable Care Act driving premiums up, along with impossible deductibles. A real Bait-n-Switch."

There fixed it to be more accurate and less full of wiggle room.

I clicked on the “Covered California” calculator, and it said server error!

Not that I’m in California or would want their insurance!

Wait, you mean the rates haven’t dropped by $2,500 per family? Say it isn’t so!

” most people won’t see any increases because their premiums are paid by their employers.”

Their premiums may not go up on 1/1/2014 but wait until they go to the doctor and find out that they will be paying on their deductible most of the year unless they are fortunate enough to have to have several major hospital stays.

Some docs offices are getting the first wave of benefits for patients whose new policy year was effective 10/1/2013. Co-pays are equal to 90% of the contracted fee schedule and insurance only pays the other 10%. Surprise surprise. Why even have insurance?

She’s paying premiums for all those Mexicans that Pelosi and Brown welcome to the state. I think it’s funny as hell.

I know people who have a lot of money and people who make a lot of money who will defend to the death everything obama does. They’ll even write the checks.

“I wanted the Affordable Health Care Act. The problem is, is it’s not affordable,” she said.”

That’s what you get for depending on the government for ANYTHING.

Here ended the lesson.

“That’s of little consolation to a Novato woman who sent us her notice from Kaiser showing a premium increase of 106 percent. She too does not qualify for subsidies. “

And she gets to have a gun to her head forcing her to buy it also.

Obamacare was sold to help the 30 million uninsured.

The 300 million with insurance are now getting the bill and the rocks in their head are exploding.

Bingo. Well said!
