Rep. Nancy Pelosi believes the Washington Redskins should find a new name.
In an interview with The Hill, the California Democrat said it “probably would be a good idea if they change the name.”
The House minority leader is the latest politician who has embraced a name change. President Obama earlier this month said he would “think about changing” the team name if he owned the football team.
Pelosi noted that when she was growing up in Baltimore, the city didn’t have a football team.
“So one of the first songs I ever learned in my whole life was, ‘Hail to the Redskins.’ I didn’t have the faintest idea what I was saying, but I’ve known it forever,” she said.
Pelosi noted she has been focusing on other issues, but is aware that Native American groups have criticized the name as a slur.
Other politicians who have called for a change include Reps. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) and Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Dels. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Eni Faleomavaega (D-A.S.).
Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a civil rights hero, told The Hill in March that the Redskins should consider a name change.
Redskins owner Dan Snyder has said he will never change the name.
I have a compromise. We leave the “redskins” name and put a potato on the helmet.
“Yes, because that’s clearly the most important thing for Americans to concern themselves with, the name of a football team.”
Just smoke & mirrors to distract Americans from the ongoing collapse of their way of life. As football is just bread & circuses for the masses, politicians may as well pretend it is important...
Her claim that her home town of Baltimore didn't have a pro football team was another peeloser lie.
We have to pass it, then try to enroll people to find out what is really in it.

This Redskins flap is an attempt to distract from the numerous scandals of the 0bama regime and the ongoing fiasco of 0bamacare.
Nothing more.
I note on other threads that even the communists at “60 Minutes” recognize that Benghazi was a disastrous failure by the 0bama regime.
But Nazi Pelosi wants to talk about a football team.
Good idea, they aren’t even in Washington.
Always co moonity mind it.
And to honor those who came up with this fantabulous idea, they should change it to the Washington Foreskins.
The name of a football team doesn’t bother me (FREE SPEECH), but the sight of the Wicked Witch of the West makes me nauseous. She should be forced to wear a mask, to cover the unsightly distraction!
Since it has been proven that American Indians were not the first ones here, I suggest:
The Washington Post-Clovis Asian Migrants
It’s historically accurate and de-mythologizing at the same time. It should satisfy RATs who love de-constructing things.
Exactly Washington has a team, the Sea Hawks. Baltimore is close enough to DC to share an airport (BWI) they are close enough to share a football team. Move the the Redskins to Tulsa, Oklahoma could use a football team.
No change there, then!
Move the team to Los Angeles, Mr. Snyder!
