10 Students In Custody After Brawl At Overbrook High School; 3 Injured

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Investigators say 10 students were taken into custody after a massive brawl at Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia.

The brawl, which was captured on cell phone video, allegedly began over a post on social media.

The incident was reported at about 10:15 a.m. Monday in a third-floor hallway.

As a result of the incident, two students suffered minor injuries. A school administrator also suffered a minor leg injury.

“It’s mayhem. Students are in the halls, they’re smoking in the bathroom; cigarettes, marijuana,” said a worker at the school, who asked not to be identified. “We can’t contain them and it’s really hazardous for us working and these kids are not being educated at all.”

This is an excellent example of why federal and state departments of education should be defunded and abolished. Inner city schools are funded primarily by state and federal tax dollars. The results are dropout rates in excess of 50% and the remaining feral yut that graduate are by illiterates.

I don't like funding failure. Maybe if the parent (non sic) had to pay for their children's education they would value education and demand academic performance from their children and schools.

The law about compulsory education until age 16 is a failure. It can’t possibly apply to moronic delinquents. They should be in a work camp, tilling the fields and doing something constructive with their lives, instead of harassing and raping innocent White girls and disrupting the classroom for the 4% of the kids who really want to learn.

With compulsory education, the schools are deathly afraid of expelling them cuz then they would be called racist, so they pretend to teach them while the kids practice being juvenile delinquents.

High School students smoking cigarettes.

We high school students smoked cigarettes in the halls and in the classroom (if the teacher smoked) in 1968-1970.

Same thing in university classes from 1970 - 1974.

Hell, I played college basketball until I wrecked a knee and we used to smoke in the weight room AND the Jacuzzi.

I am shocked SHOCKED that students were smoking in the bathroom. Reminds me of this classic that was immortalized on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. (anyone remember that show. DAMN, are we getting OLD!!)

Might be the way I made it through high school with half my day filled up with workouts and treatment of athletic injuries.

OH, YEAH! I also remember my 7th grade science teacher lecture us of the dangers of taking up cigarettes. Even made us watch a movie, with our parent’s consent, graphically showing a man having a diseased lung removed (most of the girls in class were tossing cookies in the girl’s room by the time it was over) while he brandished a pack of Parliaments in his shirt pocket.

The same principle was applied when the Baltimore Bullets moved to DC. They changed the team's name to the Wizards in response to the horrific crime rate there. Yeah, that caused a dramatic reduction in crime didn't it?
