I would be arrested if I siphoned less than 5 cents of gasoline.
It seems the greenies have some idea that ‘green’ energy is manna from heaven or something. The fabled money tree discovered at last! pffft!

The Volt does, the Leaf and Tesla don’t.

Given the cost of having an officer investigate and make an arrest Is there any incremental cost? Does the cop cost the same if he's sitting in a donut shop or actually working?

Likely moreso for the siphoning than the gasoline.

I wouldn’t take kindly to people coming up to my outdoor electrical outlet to charge their phone, either. If someone asked my permission, I would consider it.

He spotted an exterior outlet and plugged in his Nissan Leaf, only to get stopped by a police officer after about 20 minutes.I think it's safe to assume that, had he not been spotted by the police officer, he would have continued to charge his car for however long he wanted. The fact that he was stopped after only getting a nickel's worth of electricity should not be a reason to have sympathy for him. He's a thief.

That’s known as “making an example out of the case” or prosecuting someone agressively and unfairly after years of not being able to stop the alleged activity, hoping that this will scare other people into not performing the alleged activity.
Martha Stewart.
Selective prosecution renders the law invalid.

"Is there any incremental cost? Does the cop cost the same if he's sitting in a donut shop or actually working? " It cost more if the cop is actually working because resources have to be used to get to the scene, prepare a report, make an arrest, and transport the person to the jail. If the person is kept at the jail for any substantial period of time, resources have to be used to feed and clothe the person. More resources will then be used to file a complaint with the District Attorney's Office and get the case into court.

Jailed?
Yet, in California thousands of violent prisoners are being released due to a federal judge’s ruling to reduce overcrowding.

The humor on this thread is electrifying.
