Don't Hike The Gas Tax
Washington Times ^ | December 6, 2013 | Staff

The first thought that pops into the mind of Rep. Earl Blumenauer when he sees prices at the gasoline pump is: They ought to be higher. The Oregon Democrat introduced legislation Tuesday to nearly double the federal gas tax from 18.4 cents per gallon to 33.4 cents over the next three years. By indexing the amount to inflation, the tax would hike itself automatically each year.

“The gas tax hasn’t been increased since the beginning of the Clinton administration,” says Mr. Blumenauer, referring to the 4.3 cents per gallon hike in 1993. Nothing could be more offensive to a Democrat than a tax that has gone unhiked.

Fifteen cents may not sound significant, but it adds up quickly. The federal fuel excise tax currently raises about $40 billion every year, so an extra 15 cents at the pump represents $30 billion more extracted from taxpayers every year.

I’ll agree to a tax hike when Congress passes a two term limit.

I understand the problem that as vehicles get more fuel-efficient they use less gallons of gas to tax. So more money is needed. I’d think the logical thing would be to increase the tax on those mega-trucks that cause the most damage to the highways.

Well, our “republican” governor in Pennsylvania thought it was a fine time to raise ours a quarter! These people are out of their minds. Why bother voting republican, really? My future great great grandkids are in debt already for $trillions of “stimulus” for what? Wasn’t that supposedd to fix our bridges and roads and infrastructure? Wasn’t that how it was sold? So why is my republican governor (who also happens to have a republican legislature doing this to us? This is why people give up on the system. I am about there. Had it!

Massachusetts passed a bill to index the state gas tax to inflation. Last week a repeal petition got enough signatures to get on the ballot, and the usual suspects are screaming.

“The Oregon Democrat introduced legislation Tuesday to nearly double the federal gas tax”.

The ba$$tard is another demodummie and wants to get odumbo his $8.00 a gallon gas anyway they can. They MUST HAVE TAX monies to support all their stupid corrupt plans and hiking gas prices will only be a drop in the bucket to support their new “gazillion” dollar deficits. Impeach all of them and those RHINO’s who also support them.
