The U.S. Army is sending roughly 19,000 active-duty captains and majors to a screening board for early separation this spring, the Army Times reported. Up to 20 percent of those screened — approximately 3,800 officers — could be scheduled to leave the service by the Officer Separation Board and Enhanced Selective Early Retirement Board. Officers with fewer than 18 years of federal active service will have their screening process done by OSB, and those with more than 18 years of service will see the E-SERB, according to the Army Times. “The Army’s drawdown plan is a balanced approach while maintaining

I don’t know about the Majors but they NEED their Captains

CPT’s make up most of the pilots and also Company leaders .
They are invaluable . As long as they are not JAGs

I look forward to the headline : U.S. Military to disband the JAG Corps . That would be a HUGE savings and an immense benefit to our troops .

Need to pare down the Flag officers (Generals) and Colonels. Releasing just Majors and Captains leaves the US Army top-heavy, and, releasing higher ranks means fewer high end salaries

We need more social workers and welfare cases and illegal aliens than people to defend our nation, don’t we?

They are destroying the continuity (and ability) of our armed services (now and future). Enough said!

The military did exactly the same thing in the early 1990s, after the end of the Cold War. Both then and now, steep reductions in active duty troop strength require early separation of officers. Simple math.

You will have a bigger mess with military justice if you have no JAG. If you just have civil servant attorneys you cannot discipline them like military lawyers.

Better to have lawyers answerable to a courts-martial than lawyers who will have to answer to no one

The Army’s drawdown plan is a balanced approach that will get us all killed or allow our enemies an open door. Thier plan is working well

>>will they get a trip to hawaii?<<

The ones assigned to Pearl, yes.

In the old days they would have Barber’s Point (roaches check in and, well, they just check in — REAL roaches not bad people).

When I worked in a university setting ... in Cambridge, MA ... I observed that many extremely bright young people arrived on campus as Freshmen. They were noticeably less bright by the time of graduation. Of course, some stayed on and pursued their Master's degree -- they were easy to spot because they knew almost nothing and were confused by simple questions. And obviously you had students in Doctoral programs -- they couldn't work the copy machine.

Based on my knowledge of the Armed Forces, I would say it works the same way.

Piece by piece the military is being done away with. Getting rid of the most experienced senior military leaders, now the best portion of the experienced mid level leaders. The enlisted ranks have been in the thinning process for years ... multitudes of senior enlisted being forced to leave the ranks.

Without experienced Captains and senior enlisted, you have no military.

I imagine Barry needs the money to prepare welcome baskets for his 30 to 45 million illegal aliens when the GOP gives them all amnesty.

The military is being dismantled block by block at an accelerating pace.

We are like a snow ball rolling down a hill going faster and faster until we explode when we hit bottom.

I’m having days now when I feel so heart sick may vomit.
