More Lake Effect snow today, I got caught in blizzard/white out conditions, traffic 5 miles an hour, snow covered roads and cars in ditches. I turned around to get out of the worst of it and within 7 miles the sun was shining. 8 inches fell in 4 hours.

Hi again, Kathy! The morning commutes continue to be horrendous, but the evening commute was again under one hour. I'm not going in tomorrow - I have appointments with physicians and my dentist throughout the day. Of course, I'm still driving all over Central Maryland - Baltimore to Greenbelt and back to Laurel.

Still a lot of Christmas decorating to do. We hope to finish over the weekend.

Good evening, yarddog....((HUGS))...thank you so much for sharing your pictures. He does look very cold. God Bless all our military men and women, past and present.

My eyes went immediately to his hands...no gloves or mittens.
I just got in from a hair cut and stop by Costco to pick up refilled ink cartridges....my hands are frozen and hurt like heck as they warm up. It has been below zero all day, but now it has warmed up to 5 above and started snowing.

Thank you. I have a large number of WWII pictures. I don’t deserve much credit as they were gathered by the Daughter of one of my Fathers comrades in the 208th ECB.

She contacted all the ones still living but mostly from their children as many pictures as she could get. She then edited them, and created categories and copied them all onto DVDs. I think I sent her around 20 photos but there are over 600 in total. I try to give credit to whoever took each picture but sometimes I just don’t know.

Some are of poor quality but of such an interesting subject that I am glad I have them. One of the best but which I can’t seem to find is of their first meeting up with the Russians just outside Berlin in 1945.

Can planes even fly at -19?

I expect so with proper warm-up. And the poor folks that service them sure must know how to keep warm.

Geron,

Planes fly well at -19 and below. They also fly well at 40+.

Problems occur right at above and below +32 due to icing.

It is hard on the maintainers and crew chiefs working in these conditions.
But, we are well equipped with cold weather gear and work rest cycles so we don't freeze.

The F-16 usually has some problems with extreme cold weather with its’ hydraulic systems being cold. The flight controls need to be moved and exercised vigorously to get them warmed up.

We often have to calm the pilots and tell them to cycle the controls and surfaces for several minutes before we can clear them to fly.
