Fort Bragg chapel holds first same-sex ceremony

Three years ago, Maj. Daniel Toven couldn’t imagine being married, let alone having a ceremony in Fort Bragg’s Main Post Chapel. Like all gay soldiers at the time, he was living under the policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell” — a policy that kept separated his personal life and his work.

But after a whirlwind of changes that began with the repeal of the ban in 2011, Toven and his partner, Johnathan Taylor, have broken ground.

The pair, who wed in Washington, D.C., in August, blessed their marriage before more than 100 people at Fort Bragg on Saturday.

The ceremony — while not technically a wedding, which would be barred by state law — is believed to be the first for a same-sex couple at Fort Bragg.

The couple exchanged vows and were blessed in front of their family and friends packed in the chapel, which dates to 1934.

Tell me again why we should support our brave military . . .

Because my son is in it and he's a decent, God fearing man with two tours in Iraq and a family.

No doubt. But he’s enlisted in an organization that has now been placed on the front lines of the war for cultural change. The fact that our military has long been known for attracting decent and brave people is the main reason it has been selected for its new role. It seems to me that if the decent people stay (maybe grinding their teeth in the background), the war against decency will be won all the more easily.

That's a fact.

Good comment.

In Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire Gibbon mentions both the feminization of the Romans and the erosion of the military as factors in the fall of Rome. We are now on the same path.

I hope real American soldiers have access to a chapel that has not been desecrated.

Just not the right thing to do or the right place to do it. Just wrong all the way around.
IMO, them poofs are pushing the wrong buttons with actions like this.
Are they intentionally seeking 'retaliatory acts'? Maybe so.
This groups is very skilled at tossing out the "Victim Card" and getting public/media attention.

FTA....and I'm Old School Army, not brown boot...but damn close.

We are on the same path but at a greatly accelerated pace.

doesnt matter if they are 'born that way' or not...queers are required to resist and turn away from sexual sin [as are normal, hetero folks] and to be celibate outside of Marriage, which was Designed back in the Garden, and the ceremony performed by none other than God Himself...

the participants of the design being a man and a woman...

any quueers or 'normal' folks that dont like that arrangement can take it up with Him, they dont have to believe, but it would be wise to heed the warnings of the ages as to the consequences of continuing in sin and denying the Redeemer that was designed to Save us from ourselves, namely Christ the Lord, given to us at this time of celebration...

Merry CHRISTmas all...

A pertitent question is who are the new barbarians? I would say the Muslims.

They may prove stronger in the end because they give females little say.

Since the ceremony is a lie, why didn’t they call down the Liar Of The United States to carry it out? Would be fitting.

The picture would not be complete without God being able to redeem the sexual nature. A little known fact (since a lot of natural heterosexuals think they can just slide by God on their sex lives because of that) is that God has ennobling power for everything there is about gender/sex that is not a sin. Men become more manly; women become more womanly; and yet with virtue (chaste outside of marriage, faithful within). Heterosexuals who are not giving themselves wholly to the Lord should be careful about throwing that first stone. It could boomerang.

Amen Brother...we 'normal' folks are guilty of sexual sin on a regular basis too, sins which are described just as plainly and condemned just like queer sex...

the codifying of sex sin in mans 'law' is the real problem, and as CHRISTians we should be warning of the power and Glory of God to all those who continue to mock Him...

His Glory is what we try to show 'the world', through the Word, and as you said, we do benefit from better sex relationships when the design is understood and implemented in our lives...men can be men, and women can be women and everything seems to work out with more peace and harmony...

Merry CHRISTmas again to you and yours...
