Seventy-five state employees were found to be regularly violating time and attendance policies to work two public jobs at the same time, according to state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
These employees cost taxpayers $413,277 for the 4,803 hours they claimed, but did not work, DiNapoli announced Thursday. Employees falsified timesheets, abused sick leave and misrepresented travel time from one job to another, officials reported.
The Comptroller's Office found the employees in audits conducted of six state agencies and authorities, according to the comptroller's office. Auditors examined 345 employees and found 75 working at a second job at the same time they claimed they were working at their first job, officials said.
"Our audits found supervisors were lax and often complicit in allowing employees to game the system," DiNapoli said. "This is costing taxpayers too much and could jeopardize public safety. It has got to stop."
If a similar percentage of workers are doing the same thing statewide, this could be costing the state millions of dollars every year, according to a comptroller's office news release.

This is basically what the Mob does.
How can the tell the city employees who are not working from any of the others?
Undefined AppKey. (Caspio Bridge error) (60011)
Out of 75 and not a one came forward.
Not surprising, they are government employees.
Sounds like New Orleans where every councilman has an imaginary city worker they draw a check for.
Bwahahahaha!!!!
IF! IF? IF?
Seriously? IF?
It is CERTAIN!!!
And they have all been charged with.....................?
Nothing. This is New York and as a civil servant, you are expected to pad your overtime so that it accrues towards your tax-free pension.
Will the last tax payer in New York please remember to turn off the lights when you leave?
Tip of the iceberg —
That’s why they all fear global warming.
Sounds like a good way to get rid of 20% of the public workforce with no guilt. Obviously the jobs were not being done with no negative impact so there is no reason to replace them.
Vigorous and public prosecution, followed by lengthy “pound you in the a$$” prison terms.
In communists NY? Not surprised.
A govt. employee whistle blower will be termanated and banned from employment withing the field.
OK, maybe they won’t be charged, but they will probably be BOOKED........ for speaking engagements!!!!
Just padding the billable hours - should be easy to get representation...
