I don’t think the Chinese plan to replicate the US Pacific Fleet in every aspect. Simply aping the Big Dog isn’t going to achieve anything but spurring that enemy to greater efforts to stay ahead (RN vs. German High Seas Fleet; USN vs. Soviet Navy).
The better way to go is to develop an asymmetric threat by leveraging new technologies. I think that this is the real theat posed by China. While we are watching their modest coventional buildup, China will also field weapons systems that are revolutionary. Handicapping that matchup will be next to impossible.

Well, if I had to guess, I’d say Clinton. But I’d like to think he traded them for campaign contributions, rather than gave them away. He’s at least that much better than Obama.

To me I believe its going to take a lot more than just pictures of ONE aircraft (same side number) and a cool looking tail logo of a “shark” (doing one CAT and Trap) to convince me that they can put up more than just one wave of an attack before get too worried...
Yes, it is a very pretty force they have there, and their combat systems and capabilities might very well be formidable...But is it sustainable as a projection of force if it needs to be???
Just because they put on uniforms and other gear that makes them look like us, doiesn’t mean they can play in the same league...
But, I will caveat my observations with this...
Maybe their efforts here are NOT to be sustainable, only long enough to take us down a notch or two???
