Mexican who gunned down Houston cop WILL be executed tonight despite last-minute pleas from Mexico government

A Mexican held on death-row in a Texan prison for murdering a policeman will be executed tonight despite last-ditch appeals from lawyers for clemency. Edgar Arias Tamayo, 46, was set for lethal injection this evening for shooting of Guy Gaddis, 24, in January 1994. The case has been a focus of protests in his home town and diplomatic pressure, with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry calling for a delay to Tamayo's execution. Tamayo's lawyers had lodged an appeal arguing that he was ineligible for the death penalty due to mental impairment. But a court ruled the appeal had been filed too late. Gaddis, who had been on the force for two years, was driving Tamayo and another man from a robbery scene when evidence showed the officer was shot three times in the head and neck with a pistol Tamayo had concealed in his pants. The car crashed, and Tamayo fled on foot but was captured a few blocks away, still in handcuffs, carrying the robbery victim's watch and wearing the victim's necklace. Tamayo's attorneys and the Mexican government contend Tamayo's case was tainted because he wasn't advised under an international agreement that he could get legal help from his home nation following his arrest. Secretary of State John Kerry previously asked Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to delay Tamayo's punishment, saying it 'could impact the way American citizens are treated in other countries.' The State Department repeated that stance Tuesday.

Kerry should be asking other countries to accept American justice, not the other way around.

How’s about we don’t call him a Mexican.

I was pissed off UNIVISION reported this story, not mentioning the crime, but concentrating on the protests, and the love story between an idiot woman and the inmate. Sickening.

Someone had better come up with a conservative news channel, or a significant part of the population is going to be indoctrinated.

How about a FREE REPUBLIC forum in Spanish?

“If you kill someone in Texas, we will kill you back.” - Ron White

But only in 1 out of 100 instances. In 2013, there were 16 executions. In the 90's, when most of those now being executed committed their crimes, an average of 1600 homicides occurred per year.

100% deterrent too. This killer will NEVER take another life. Therefore, Capital Punishment is 100% effective in the deterrent effect it has.

I thought we were supposed to treat illegals just like US citizens. When it suits them, they want to be treated like foreigners.

1994? And of course it’s taken 20 years. Why even call it the death penalty? 20 years from now anyone can die, it’s 20 freakin’ years. They should call it “people who should be dead blowing through taxpayer cash so liberals feel good about themselves”

Haven’t some libs referred to illegal aliens as “undocumented citizens”?

That being the case, what’s the problem?

Just damn. - Updated at 8:33 p.m. Houston Chronicle

HUNTSVILLE — The execution of a Mexican national condemned for killing a Houston policeman was at least temporarily put on hold Wednesday as the U.S. Supreme Court considered appeals to keep Edgar Tamayo from the Texas death chamber.

Tamayo's execution had been scheduled for 6 p.m. CST Wednesday for the 1994 slaying of Guy Gaddis, 24. The state still could execute Tamayo before midnight if the Supreme Court rules in its favor…

Earlier Wednesday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a stay of execution….

A stay? I clicked on the link in message #15 and it said the execution was carried out.

This piece of garbage is no longer of this earth. Good riddance. Should have been done 20 years ago.
