It is JFK’s world we are living in.

“However, if there is one man who can take the most credit for the 1965 act, it is John F. Kennedy. Kennedy seems to have inherited the resentment his father Joseph felt as an outsider in Boston’s WASP aristocracy. He voted against the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952, and supported various refugee acts throughout the 1950s. In 1958 he wrote a book, A Nation of Immigrants, which attacked the quota system as illogical and without purpose, and the book served as Kennedy’s blueprint for immigration reform after he became president in 1960. In the summer of 1963, Kennedy sent Congress a proposal calling for the elimination of the national origins quota system. He wanted immigrants admitted on the basis of family reunification and needed skills, without regard to national origin. After his assassination in November, his brother Robert took up the cause of immigration reform, calling it JFK’s legacy. In the forward to a revised edition of A Nation of Immigrants, issued in 1964 to gain support for the new law, he wrote, “I know of no cause which President Kennedy championed more warmly than the improvement of our immigration policies.” Sold as a memorial to JFK, there was very little opposition to what became known as the Immigration Act of 1965.”

Social conservatives and Constitutional conservatives need to figure out how to work together. Otherwise we are both screwed.

A real conservative is a true conservative, all three legs, someone who is fighting social conservatism is of the left.

Anyone who is trying to weaken or marginalize or create a myth that social conservatism is not the foundation of conservatism and conservative economics, is of the left.

Someone who is so far left that he is looking at the other conservatives and calling himself a Constitutional conservative, implying that the real conservatives are not, is of the left.

People who are to the left of conservatives are coming up with whole new approaches and language to defeat it.

Any illegal alien in this country has violated our law simply by being here. As soon as they work for pay, they violate our tax code. It is impossible NOT to either take payment under the table OR to falsify W2 data to include SSN.

It is impossible to enroll their children without SSNs. It is impossible to collect earning income credit without falsifying SSNs. It is impossible to drive without either doing so without a license or lying about one’s nationality, SSN, etc. It is impossible to get water, electric, medical care...all of the above WITHOUT lying.

All of the above a violations of the law.

Additionally, as one of the lawyers frequenting Free Republic, P-Marlowe is correct about “permanent resident denied citizenship” creating a class of people permitted to be here but denied the freedoms of this country. The courts would declare that some form of serfdom or slavery so fast it would make your head spin. Remember, these are the courts who claim battlefield captures have their rights violated by not being tried in our court system with our protections....just because they are here.

Surely, you understand now that ANY push that offers ANYTHING but deportion for illegals is actually misrepresenting what eventually will become a path to citizenship.

I call myself a Constitutional conservative, however I support most of the social conservative agenda. I’d just be reluctant to use the force of law to impose it. With the exception of life, abortion as a form of birth control is murder. Male on male sex is a perversion. Other then those two I lean libertarian.

I am fine with deporting 30 million people, really I am, please let me know when you find an electable presidential candidate that promises to do that. I’ll happily vote for him/her.

The lack of a candidate who is clear on these things does not change the reality of what laws that illegals violate.

The truth is that it’s already “illegal” to be “illegal”...to bypass immigration, to violate a visa, to hire such a person.

I believe it’s also law to build a fence/barrier to prevent illegal immigration.

The best candidate simply calls for enforcing the laws we already have on the books.

Not to open up old wounds, but, after seeing Rudy’s 2008 convention takedown of Obama, do you have any doubt that he would have won the election?

Lot of the usual nit-picking on this post. There is no candidate that could ever satisfy the “needs” of every FR. Romney would have been far better than the POS in the White House now but too many people wouldn’t vote because they hated Romney. I hated him as well but we’d be better off than we are now. Small steps to the right is more apt to happen than a giant leap. I’d like to see that giant leap myself but if it’s not there you ho with what’s better.

You stand with Amnesty and Mitch McConnell

It looks like most of our potential choices have warts that will leave us with no real choices.

Just curious, how do you envision a realistic fix to illegal immigration going? Not just some idealized fancy, a real-world possibility. I keep seeing rants about amnesty supporters, but haven't seen anyone with expectations that seem to be based on any reality-based train of thought.

These are already on the books as law:

1. Fence a la Israeli secure
2. Prosecute/heavy fines if you hire or pay illegals
3. Set up a deportation infrastructure where illegals left with no job that don't leave are deported
4. Illegals caught committing a crime by law enforcement are convicted, imprisoned and then deported
5. Family ties to someone deported, you move too if you want to remain a family

Goldman Sacks has probably 500 Vice Pesidents. So what difference does it make if Ted Cruz's wife is one of them? Dies that make her a crook?

Ted Cruz is a member of the same organization that Harry Reid runs. Does that mean that Ted Cruz is another Harry Reid?

. But the feds never really went after employers of illegals because illegals give the feds money via fake SS accounts that never claim benefits.

You really don't know how the world works. I deal with illegal aliens every day in my work. Typically when they fill out a W4 form they claim a half dozen or more dependents than they actually have. They don't need to get refunds because, if they filed their taxes they would owe a ton.

to make up for this deficit, the IRS goes after Citizens.

When is the last time an illegal alien went to jail for tax evasion?

For that matter when is the last time an employer was fined for hiring illegal aliens?

We do not need comprehensive immigration reform. We need comprehensive enforcement of our existing laws.

If the government is not willing to enforce the laws on the books now, what makes you think they will enforce some new laws?
