4 Graham challengers agree to support each other

COLUMBIA, S.C. Four challengers to U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham signed an agreement that if any of them make a runoff against the Republican incumbent, the other three will throw their support behind the challenger.

Roebuck Sen. Lee Bright, Anderson businessman Richard Cash and Orangeburg attorney Bill Connor were expected Thursday at the Statehouse, but were joined by former Spartanburg police officer Dave Feliciano, who has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission but not raised any money.

All four men signed papers vowing to support any challenger that makes it to a runoff with Graham after the June 10 primary. Graham has to get at least 50 percent of the vote to win the nomination outright.

A recent Winthrop University poll showed Graham with a large lead, but not quite 50 percent. However, the same poll showed one-third of likely Republican voters polled have not made up their minds, and the remaining challengers were in single digits. Graham has more than $7.5 million in his campaign accounts while none of his challengers has more than $300,000.

Cash pointed out that Graham's support had dipped from the last Winthrop poll. He said signing the agreement Thursday just puts in writing what he has said all along — that South Carolina will be better with a more conservative senator than Graham.

I don’t know any of these candidates but this is how tea partiers need to run.

This is the way they have to do it to be successful. And if needed, the remaining ad $$ the other three have should go to ads endorsing the winner, and denouncing any libertarian candidate in the race. THIS is how the democrats win —they run phony libertarians that make it damned near impossible for a Repugnican’t to win a close race.

I wish there was just one strong, conservative challenger, but hopefully this will sort itself out for the best. I’d really HATE to see Gramnesty get yet another six years because challengers manage to cancel each other out.

What in the hell is wrong with Republicans in Arizona and South Carolina with this repeated insanity?

Discarding the despicable Little Lindsey Graham is a two phase process.

In Phase 1 (the primary) all Republican primary challengers save their attacks solely for Little Lindsey and NEVER attack one another. The goal is to keep Lindsey UNDER 50% of the primary vote.

In Phase 2 (I’m assuming Phase 1 was successful) the conservative who come in 2nd place in the primary advances (along with Little Lindsey) to a runoff. All conservatives UNITE to campaign for the surviving conservative and AGAINST Little Lindsey. This run off is where we need to defeat the despicable Graham.

Voting for Graham being the “insanity,” and not the challengers’ alliance?

They should be careful with the legality of spending it.

I’m sure Graham and Obama have big plans for anyone ruining their relationship.

Smart plan! I hope more challengers to Rino seats work a plan like this with the other challengers.

A model for the future; but we also need to, as conservatives, stop beating each other up so badly in primaries that the RINO wins.

I agree. I’ve been following the NC primary and, at least so far, the conservative challengers have NOT been attacking one another but have instead saved their ammunition for Little Lindsey.

If Graham wins the primary, it would be better that he lost the election. A message must be sent to the GOP, even if that means putting a Democrat in the Senate.

I can only assume that Graham’s base are older, low information voters who get all their news from watching Fox, where Graham is practically an anchor.

I think you meant the SC Primary; not the NC Primary. Lindsey Graham is a U.S. Senator from South Carolina.
