KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- A Malaysia Airlines plane sent signals to a satellite for four hours after the aircraft went missing, an indication that it was still flying for hundreds of miles or more, a U.S. official briefed on the search said Thursday.
Six days after the plane with 239 people aboard disappeared, Malaysian authorities expanded their search westward toward India, saying the aircraft may have flown for several hours after its last contact with the ground shortly after takeoff from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing.

I was thinking ATC. The reason was it would recognize anything heading toward the plane, or the plane descending.

Spot on post. If they wanted to crash it into something and make a statement, they passed up the statement of a lifetime. Therefore, IMO it almost surely is on a runway strip somewhere in Pakistan or Iran.
If it wasn’t a post or email by a Tea Party member, the NSA likely has no clue. They missed the Boston Bombers and that is after Russia gave them a direct hint.

I believe jets were scrambled and they could actually see the pilots slumped over in the cockpit. Nothing anyone could do to stop the plane from going down eventaully.
I remember thinking that day that something would be done to save everyone but it wasn't to be.

Ditto. From the time I heard they changed their course before shutting off the transponders, I told my husband that they're in Pakistan.
When looking at one of the maps put up on TV, I noticed Indonesia being nearby. Given its Muslim population, I can’t help but wonder if it could have gone there.
If this plane-snatching theory turns out to be true, I would expect that it was planned well enough in advance for someone to have constructed an adequate runway and the means to camouflage it from aerial observation until ready to be used again.
I also suspect that whatever they have in mind for the plane probably won’t occur for a good while. These guys can be very patient, and they’ll likely wait for the heat to die down before striking. As for the passengers, any Jewish ones have probably already been murdered. The Muslim ones will be well cared for and eventually released. Americans will be held onto for whatever hostage value they may have. The rest, depending on their nationality and any Islamic issues relevant to their countries, will either be released or similarly held hostage for bargaining of some sort.
Or it crashed.

I’m am going to go out on a limb again and say the following.
This aircraft is going to be used in a major terrorist op against the US before the November 2014 elections in order to save the Dems’ butts.
What was loaded on the plane?
Diamonds/gold/more?
Maybe the real purpose was just a heist of valuables ala the movie Die Hard?
