If the NRA truly had our interests at heart, they would adopt the policy they once had, and oppose EVERY piece of gun control legislation. All that is gained in compromise is defeat. It may not come today, but the gun control people are satisfied with incremental wins, because they know that lots of incremental wins will add up to a complete win for them and a complete loss of rights for us.
You’ll never convince NRA members that they have been “had” any more than you will persuade the little Republican primary voters that they too have long been snookered by “the leadership.”
When did the NRA ever oppose gun control? They coined the phrase “sporting purposes of firearms”. They wrote and supported every gun control legislation for the past 100 years.
