The two were Mike Parrish in PA-06 (Lean Republican) and Buffie McFadyen in CO-06 (Safe Republican). Of the two, obviously Parrish is the more disappointing news for Democrats but its interesting to note that R+5′ is apparently enough to be effectively out of the realm of possibility for Democrats this cycle anyway. I remember a time when it was not, and that time was 2006 and 2008.
I know, I know, its vaguely minor news and everything. But if youre wondering why people are making certain assumptions about the 2014 election cycle, its because of stories like these. You look at who is running, who is retiring, who is staying out of races, who is jumping in money, too, of course, but money tends to get cancelled out by other money. In the end, the people running are the biggest part of this picture. To mangle Machiavelli gold may not get you good candidates, but good candidates can always get you gold.
PS: In that vein: the Democratic party would be well-advised to pop OFA like a zit and use those resources to fix the DNC. I say this, serene in the knowledge that nobody in the Democratic party will ever, ever listen to me

It doesn’t matter how many times Pelosi says “Obamacare is a winner for Democrats”. In reality, they’re gonna get thumped. And Obamacare is the reason why and they all know it.
Unfortunately, the Dems will view the thumping as proof that the Conservative Majority is stupid, not that the Conservative Majority is right.
I know, I know, its vaguely minor news and everything.

I consider this “major” news.
I want a wave to crush the facsist libs!
So typical Democrat mentality. Nothing new.
Buffie dropped out! That’s news!
Sheesh and I thought after 2012, the Republican party was dead. I guess not quite yet. The Democrats were supposedly dead after 2004, but survived. Anyway, both parties will survive. I am a little worried about Presidential Republican futures but we must live day by day.
I hope so too. 2016 is going to be a tough election for Republicans so we might as well win as much as we can in 2014. We have a ton of Senators up for reelection in 2016.
But we can offset it by finally retiring Reid.
Not minor, very important signals as to the beginning of the wave. Tsunamis don't begin on shore at 100 feet, they begin miles away with a small wave...it's coming and the demonRATs are like animals that sense danger and we can smell the flop sweat.
I think Reid is safe for as long as he wants the job. Same with McConnell. We are just in a stupid time where the top is protected.
‘92 doesn’t really count since the GOP was running an anti conservative new world order candidate.
By design, I’m on the OFA email list. Reading their material makes me feel like a sixth grader. Makes sense; their audience are the LIVs.
What does “OFA” even mean? Office for the Aging? Orthopedic Foundation for Animals? Optimal Flexible Architecture? Occupational First Aid? Ontario Fencing Association?
Don’t just dash off acronyms at us expecting EVERYBODY to understand.
And in 1996.
And in 2000.
And in 2004.
And in 2008.
And in 2012.
Whatchya think they'll do in 2016?
IUIPNPIWE!
My feeling is that Ted Cruz needs to get out there and ANNOUNCE that he is the best hope for America (NOT republicans) and run hard, run fast all the way to 2016. Put the GOPelitists on the DEFENSIVE for a change!
