There are lot of cantankerous liberals in TX, but they have been unable to organize into a majority. They hoped Wendy Davis would lead them out of the wilderness, but that seems doubtful now.

Longview... What happened?

Left vs. right politics is driven by population density. The 51% Democrat voter tipping point hits at around 1,000 people per square mile. Longview now has about 1,500.

“I am not unsympathetic with Longview.
When Nugent came to my community to perform at our county fair, it was the most foulmouthed performance I have ever heard, and it could be heard far beyond the fenced off stadium where he was “performing”. The F-bombs were frequent, loud and clear, in addition to a number of other profane words and scatological terms. This at a fair meant for families with a great many children present throughout the area.
It was disgusting and for me, a Conservative, incredibly embarrassing. He’s a grown man and should have known better. I hope he never comes back, as if they would even invite him.”

Right. It’s a July 4th event not a political rally.
Ted gets a bit over the top. Obviously Longview hasn’t a problem with Teds being conservative since that’s hardly a secret.
As you said this is a family oriented event and Teds Schtick is really not suited to children.

Thanks! You are correct. Didn’t mean to mislead. I should have said it was a republican majority congress at that time or a majority of congress voted for the act, the opposed members were mostly southern democrats.

...never drank nor smoked dope in his life...

I suggest you listen to "Journey To The Center Of The Mind" by the Amboy Dukes.

Yeah but that doesn’t mean he ever drank or did drugs. That was the style of music back then. He played it a few years ago in a Amboy dukes reunion, everyone looks like they are 80 years old now lol

The Nuge says bad words sometimes? No, really. The guy who wrote, among many others, “Wango Tango” and “Wang Dang Sweet...” (wait a minute, can we say that last word on FR?) says bad words sometimes? Who knew?

There were about 67 Democrat senators in 1964; six Republicans voted no, including Tower and Goldwater.

Ted didn’t write it, he was 17 at the time, and admitted at the time he was real naive about what the song was about.

OK, to be exact, the breakdown of those who voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act was:

Senate: 81.8 % Republican / 68.7% Democrat
House: 80.2% Republican / 61.3% Democrat
